Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

An icon used in notice templates. NOTE: SmashWiki is not speculative. Please refrain from adding detailed data values derived from pre-release gameplay footage, such as the E3 demo. Such data (damage values, launch trajectories, frame data, etc.) are subject to change before the official release.

Aesthetics

  • Change As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Cloud's model features a more subdued color scheme. His clothing features subtle detailing.

Attributes

  • Buff Like all characters, Cloud's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.
  • Change Cloud's Limit Break gauge is shown next to his character HUD.

Ground moves

  • Nerf Up smash no longer has a hitbox at the end of the attack behind Cloud.
  • Nerf Dash attack does less damage.

Aerial moves

  • Buff All aerials have less landing lag.
  • Nerf Neutral aerial has an altered animation with reduced range.
  • Nerf Up aerial no longer has a hitbox during the sword's initial ascension. This increases its startup, weakens its combo potential and prevents it from hitting grounded opponents as easily.
  • Nerf Down aerial autocancels later.

Special moves

  • Change Cross Slash has a sleeker design inspired from Dissidia Final Fantasy instead of the brush-like strikes from Smash 4.
  • Change Limit Cross Slash's strikes slow down significantly against shield.
  • Nerf Limit Cross Slash has lowered knockback.
  • Buff There is now a wider window for Climhazzard's downward slash to snap on to the ledge.
  • Buff Climhazzard's downward slash has less endlag.
  • Buff Limit Charge charges faster.
  • Nerf A fully charged Limit Break will lose its charge if it is not used within 15 seconds.
  • Nerf If Cloud takes damage while charging Limit Charge, he will now lose some Limit.[1]
  • Nerf Finishing Touch has a smaller hitbox.
  • Buff Finishing Touch hitbox starts sooner.

Trivia

  • A section of Cloud's trailer pictures him using his side taunt with R.O.B. in the distance, who is promptly struck by either Pikachu's or Pichu's Thunder. This is a direct reference to magic-casting and its animation in Final Fantasy, with Thunder being a basic black magic spell.
  • Cloud’s official render resembles his idle animation from Final Fantasy VII and Smash Bros.
