Each time you fulfill the requirements for a box it will break giving you whatever prize it contained. When you have broken a box the adjacent boxes will turn red and display the requirements for obtaining it. A small icon of the prize is also shown within the red box. Looking a boxes you've already broken shows its name at the bottom of the screen, its fulfilled requirements beneath that and a picture of the prize to the left.


Upon unlocking something, the squares to the left and right of the unlocked item will turn red. You will see a silhouette of the unlockable and while the game won't tell you what it is, it will tell you what you need to do to unlock it.
There's also [[Golden Hammer|Golden Hammers]] that you can use to break boxes you're having trouble unlocking. Once a [[Golden Hammer]] is used, it never returns. So use it wisely.


In addition, a limited supply of [[Golden Hammer]]s will be available to the player, by using one of these hammers, the player can immediately break open a window without actually having to meet it's requirements. Some windows (presumably windows containing secret characters, stages & other features of similar worth) cannot be broken open via Golden Hammer.

Challenges is a new mode in Brawl. When first starting the game all the player will see is a board of blue squares. Each square contains either a trophy, sticker or CD and can only be unlocked by fulfilling certain requirements. Each time you fulfill the requirements for a box it will break giving you whatever prize it contained. When you have broken a box the adjacent boxes will turn red and display the requirements for obtaining it. A small icon of the prize is also shown within the red box. There's also Golden Hammers that you can use to break boxes you're having trouble unlocking. Once a Golden Hammer is used, it never returns. So use it wisely.
