The Match Timer is an element that appears during a Time match in the series. It shows how much time it has during a match. The timer starts when the announcer says "GO!". Starting with Super Smash Bros. Melee, the timer will disappear when there is only five seconds left in the match and the announcer will start counting down the final seconds. When time runs out, the match will come to an end and there will be a winner or in the event of a tie, a Sudden Death match. The timer can be adjusted between 1 and 99 minutes in the Rules section. In addition to standard matches, the timer can appear in minigames like Trophy Rush and the Home-Run Contest.

In Super Smash Bros. 4, if Master Core is in its final form, the 5-second countdown still applies when there is only five seconds left. This doesn't affect to KO Master Core, however.
