:Debatable. Some characters have costumes similar but not identical to old ones, so there'd inevitably be issues about how much they have to match. Can't tell if the benefits outweigh the hassle involved. Mentioning previous appearances

Should we mention, or even list the games that costumes previously appeared in? It could look something like this for Bowser (plus the color column, but I don't know how to make that):

Color Description Previous Appearances
Default Super Smash Bros. MeleeSuper Smash Bros. Brawl
Black Super Smash Bros. MeleeSuper Smash Bros. Brawl
Yellow Yellow body and dull yellow shell. Prior to the official release, it was shown with a purple shell, which resembled when Bowser is poisoned in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Also resembles the gold bowser statue from Super Mario World. New
Green Based on an alternate costume in Mario Golf. Similar to Bowser's color in Super Mario World, in the DIC Entertainment cartoons and in the Nintendo Comics System series. New
Gray Slightly resembles Dry Bowser and has a similar color scheme to Morton Koopa Jr.'s classic appearance. Super Smash Bros. Melee
Orange Resembles the color scheme of Bowletta. Although her hair is actually red, she has pink horns matching the hair color. New
Red Based on an alternate costume in Mario Golf. Super Smash Bros. MeleeSuper Smash Bros. Brawl
Blue Based on the color scheme of the fake Bowser in World 8-4 in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. New
