Zero Suit Samus is a playable character that appears in Super Smash Bros. 4. She was confirmed in the Super Smash Bros. Direct on April 8, the same day Metroid: Zero Mission was released in Europe in 2004. Unlike in Brawl, she will be a completely separate character from Samus, and is no longer able to transform into the other under any circumstance (and vice versa). Her aesthetic design, like her armored form, is mainly based on her appearance in Metroid: Other M, though she still retains her blue eyes and hair style from Zero Mission. Additionally, she is now also equipped with jet boots and some metal bracelets have been added to her model, but it is unknown what the latter's purpose might be. She has a set of alternate costumes based on her appearance in the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion.
Changes from Brawl
- She wears jet boots, which visibly flare during her kicking attacks, which has been stated to buff the power of such attacks.
- Her whip appears to have a slightly longer range.
- Zero Suit Samus appears to have a new grab aerial, where she fires her Plasma Whip forward. It appears to have long horizontal range and no landing lag.
- Zero Suit Samus appears to have a new up special, where she performs a dive kick that goes upwards. When used on opponents she performs a powerful upward kick, then a spin kick to send them flying.
- Her down throw appears to have been sped up.
- Back throw deals slightly more damage.
- Flip Jump can now bury opponents.
- Her down smash appears to have less hitstun. It also deals less damage, now dealing 8% uncharged as opposed to 11%, seemingly weakening its utility.
- However, it has been sped up.
- Up aerial, back aerial, and Plasma Whip deal less damage.
- Since Zero Suit Samus is now separate from Samus, she has lost her Power Suit Pieces, forcing her to play a more close-range game.
- Dash attack is now a flying knee instead of a flying kick.
- It deals more damage, dealing 10% instead of 7%.
- Its range is reduced.
- Zero Suit Samus has a new forward smash, which is now a double kick forward.
- It's stronger and deals more damage
- Zero Suit Samus fires Paralyzer in an altered pose.
- Zero Suit Samus has a new Final Smash involving her jumping into her Gunship and firing from the front of the screen, similar to Snake's Final Smash in Brawl.
- Flip Jump now produces an afterimage graphical effect.
The following moves appear visually unchanged:
- Neutral attack
- All tilts
- Up smash
- All aerials
- Up throw
- All taunts
Special Moves
In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, but Zero Suit Samus's have yet to be seen. She retains three of her original special moves. Plasma Wire has been replaced with a more effective upward kick, but the move has yet to be officially named. Her final smash, Power Suit Samus has been replaced because characters are no longer able to change form, making them each distinct characters in this installment. Zero Suit Samus' special moves are as follows:
Special Move | Basic | Custom 1 | Custom 2 |
---|---|---|---|
Neutral Special | Paralyzer | Blaster Shot | Spreading Paralyzer |
Side Special | Plasma Whip | Whip Lash | Snare Whip |
Up Special | Boost Kick | Impact Kick | Slide Booster |
Down Special | Flip Jump | Comet Kick | Low Flip |
