The Spiny Shell, also known as the Blue Shell, is an item in Super Smash Bros. 4. First seen in the April 2014 Nintendo Direct, it will hover above a given player for several seconds before dropping down on them. The item's effects on contact are still unknown.
Origin
This variation of a Blue Spiny Shell comes from the Mario Kart series, specifically Mario Kart 7, in which it is a rare item that flies through the course in pursuit of the leader and then hits them, causing a large explosion.
