Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature. Long explanations for your vote are discouraged, as they are unnecessary (a vote is worth the same regardless of its reasoning), and they inflate the size of an already large page.
  2. You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to follow this rule; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already large page.
      • Similarly, avoid writing votes that may invite an argument. Stating your opinion is fine, but don't make it easy for others to see it as goading.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Other users should not fix such broken votes without also making them half-votes. Your vote will also be considered a half-vote if your edit causes someone else's valid vote to break one of these rules. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero (and subsequently deleted) at an operator's discretion.

Multiple votes in a round are not allowed; attempts to circumvent this with sockpuppets will result in all your votes being deleted, and is a blockable offense. Probated users who attempt to circumvent their probation with sockpuppets are also committing a blockable offense and will have their vote discounted. Remember that admins have access to CheckUser to check the IPs of any user, and will use it when sockpuppetry is suspected.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.

Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.

Round 223: Screw Attack vs. Franklin Badge

Winner!!

Franklin Badge1.jpg
Two badges, one that turns jumps into a cyclone of pain, another that acts as a reflector of infinite power. Does the offensive or defensive badge get pinned to the top?

Votes for Screw Attack

  1. While the Franklin Badge is more useful in Smash Bros., the Screw Attack leaves me with a lot of nostalgia, not only from Metroid games, but also from Melee. FirstaLasto 01:08, 1 March 2014 (EST)
  2. I like it better. Thats all I have to say. --TheLegendaryKRB (talk) 02:18, 1 March 2014 (EST)

Votes for Franklin Badge

  1. It destroys Meta Ridley, Toon Link, and Samus. Laikue (talk) 00:00, 1 March 2014 (EST)
  2. 121.223.157.19 00:04, 1 March 2014 (EST)
  3. Play a "laser and Phantasm-spamming" Falco? Franklin Badge is your worst enemy. --Timson622222 (talk) 00:30, 1 March 2014 (EST)
  4. I finally found out that Screw attack is less helpful in the Subspace Emissary. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) 01:03, 1 March 2014 (EST)

"One is an Assist Trophy, and one is a stage, and yet they are both flying planes." That's what I was told. Deal.

Votes for Corneria

  1. It can shoot lazers. 75.156.151.217 00:38, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  2. At least you can choose to fight on this. Requiem of Ice (talk) 00:46, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  3. This one can go into space. Dots (talk) Link OoT Dots.PNG The Windows 00:48, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  4. Helirin didn't really do much. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) 00:58, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  5. Helirin would make for an interesting (and bizzare) stage, but since it isn't, Corneria. FirstaLasto (talk) 01:02, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  6. Helirin doesn't really do anything productive, and Corneria is a spaceship plus jet plus laser cannon.75.85.64.155 01:06, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  7. Is this a serious fight? Helerin can not compare at all.71.118.245.252 01:11, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  8. Scr7Scr7 sig.png(talk · contribs) 04:36, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  9. Not even sure where the other thing even comes from.Queen Noob (talk) 05:19, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  10. This is the stage where I knocked a CPU off the front of the ship and it fell right in front of the laser when it fired. I still have the replay! --96.37.23.210 16:32, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  11. Yet another win for the space animal ship. --Timson622222 (talk) 16:39, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  12. It makes very little sense to compare a stage to an Assist Trophy. Regardless, I liked both Corneria and Venom (being them both angled shots of Corneria) in the games in which they appeared. Mr. Mewtwo, Roy, Game, And Watch (talk) 00:24, 17 February 2014 (EST)
  13. The Assist Trophy is always lame while I had loads of fun watching Donkey Kong get blasted to 200% by the Great Fox's lasers. GreenMarioBrawlHead.png Green Mario 00:27, 17 February 2014 (EST)
  14. l-l-l-l-lazers. Awesomelink234 (talk) 11:19, 17 February 2014 (EST)
  15. The Great Fox, while slow, can aptly defend itself (from everything except missiles 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6). blue ninjakoopa 16:12, 18 February 2014 (EST)
  16. Gotta hand it to the Great Fox for perfect attendance. Sector Z may have been massive, but I have great memories of that stage. VeePickle 19:19, 18 February 2014 (EST)
  17. What kind of Assist Trophy is used as a platform? SeanWheeler (talk) 09:05, 19 February 2014 (EST)
  18. Who came up with this round...? MarioGalaxyTalk 08:16, 20 February 2014 (EST)
  19. Helirin? That's one of the more useless assist trophies.--Pichu+Pichu (talk) 00:35, 21 February 2014 (EST)
  20. Well one is one of my favorite stages and the other is my least favorite assist trophy... So yeah. AwesomeGamer (talk) 12:27, 22 February 2014 (EST)
  21. Helirins can be annoying at times. Cherrim98Cherrim Box Sprite.pngTalk 07:53, 23 February 2014 (EST)
  22. 192.197.128.170 14:16, 24 February 2014 (EST)
  23. It's a stage that I've loved so very much ever since the Melee days, how could I not vote for it? 86.184.187.138 03:17, 26 February 2014 (EST)

Votes for Helirin

  1. Its funny how opening a trophy causes a plane to pop out!--TheLegendaryKRB (talk) 09:18, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  2. I find it so random that Helirin is the most uncommon Assist Trophy in Brawl, and I'm a big fan of its game, Kuru Kuru Kururin. That's what makes Helirin my favourite Assist Trophy. But it doesn't matter that it's going to lose, because "I don't cry, I'm British!" Had to stick a Planes reference in there. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatum 09:37, 15 February 2014 (EST)
  3. Just because of Toast's stupid reference. JamesJH-Heartless.pngHeart 15:20, 16 February 2014 (EST)
  4. 121.223.157.19 08:56, 17 February 2014 (EST)
  5. I'd love to get a copy of Kuru Kuru Kururin, but it was only released in Japan and Europe. I'd have to import a copy, which sounds like a pain. I'll play it someday, though. And I laughed really hard at your Planes reference, Toast. Good job. ChuckNorris24.png 11:26, 17 February 2014 (EST)

  7. Never heard of the game before, so why not? Terrible is a Valentine 15:45, 20 February 2014 (EST)
  8. The Helirin is cool. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 15:58, 20 February 2014 (EST)
  9. I am a Helirin. Laikue (talk) 19:43, 20 February 2014 (EST)
