Mew2King has forfeited tournament matches on several occasions, often claiming fatigue or lack of interest in response to his detractors who cite financial gain as his motivation. At MLG D.C. 2010, he allegedly lost against Diddy Kong main ADHD in loser's finals in return for $300 because he felt that he could not defeat Olimar player Rich Brown in grand finals, which was confirmed by ADHD in a  blog post. Mew2King and ADHD were both banned from the 2010 MLG Circuit finals. This match-fixing incident was cited by many as the reason for the removal of Brawl from the MLG circuit after 2010.

At Pound 5 in February 2011, MewKing forfeited to Ally in Brawl and to Hungrybox in Melee.

In May 2011, Mew2King purposefully forfeited to Meta Knight professional Anti in winner's semifinals at KTAR 5, defeated Olimar player Dabuz in loser's quarterfinals, and then forfeited to ADHD in loser's finals at KTAR 5. His performance drew backlash from the community, as many felt that he forfeited to Anti to for the express purpose of keeping Dabuz from advancing to loser's semifinals. Mew2King, ADHD, and Anti all received yellow cards under the Unity infraction system for bracket manipulation.

Two months later, Mew2King received a red card under the Unity infraction system for choosing Ganondorf and losing against female smasher Sade in pools at Genesis 2. In their decision, the Unity Ruleset Committee cited "intentional under-performance" as their reason for assigning the red card.

At Apex 2012 during Melee singles, Mew2King forfeited to Captain Falcon player Hax after a disappointing loss to Ice Climbers player Wobbles in winners' bracket.
