#Water > Ground; LOL. While I lament that the move Hydro Pump has been switched over to a not-often-seen legendary Pokémon rather than a more common Blastoise-family member, Kyogre is ''much'' more effective than its volcanic counterpart, Groudon (and I'm glad both of them finally transitioned to the ''Smash Bros.'' series). Kyogre actually bothers to ''move around the stage'' and damages foes on contact, '''in addition to''' blasting opponents off the stage with water. Groudon, however, just...sits there using "Overheat", with his true effectiveness mainly being restricted to small stages. And in the actual ''Pokémon'' handheld game series, Kyogre freaking decimates much of the opposition compared to Groudon. In any case, both of these Pokémon are awesome (with an excellent ominous battle theme in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4MrH2h2NUU the games]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpnl3PRSBbo the Pokémon anime]], to boot), but Kyogre gains a major edge. :: Agreed; a three-way match would have been much better, in my opinion. It seems wrong to exclude Rayquaza from the match, as a relationship has been established among Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza (most evident in the legends/stories of ''Pokémon Emerald Version''). Personally, I would have liked to see how Rayquaza fares against Kyogre, as I'm surprised that Kyogre is dominating with votes in this poll against Groudon. Hmm, a few people seem to think Kyogre uses Sheer Cold for its attack, and some think Groudon is a fire-type. I sense some of you may have thought that Kyogre uses Sheer Cold because of its trophy description, but it uses Hydro Pump. Groudon, I can understand, but it is in fact a pure ground type. SmashArena.png

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! If you have any requests for future fights, please feel free to leave a message here.

The Rules

  1. When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature.
  2. You can only vote once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
  3. Put a # before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
  4. Type ~~~~ after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
  5. There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to do so; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
  6. Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
  7. You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
  8. You may only vote in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
  9. Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
  10. While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing |}). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and only take effect when the entire round is viewed.
  11. If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
  12. Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
    • Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
    • Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things along the lines of "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already rather long page.

If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.

Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half.

Votes for Kyogre

  1. I remember when my Ruby got stolen in 5th grade. Bad times. Kyogre FTW. 24.168.107.113 09:23, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  2. Probably the most satisfying KO possible in Smash Bros. would come courtesy of FLUDD/Water Gun, yet so many people diss it. Watching Kyogre take it to the extreme makes their ironic falls fun. I prefer Groudon as a Pokémon, but Kyogre edges it here. Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 09:25, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  3. Even though I like Groudon better, Kyogre would be better at KOing people in Brawl. ..... The Cutest NintenNESsprite.png 10:25, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  4. Kyogre is badass against Groudon. ShupaRoeh 10:42, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  5. Hydro Pump > Blue Ninjakoopa(Talk) 10:50, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  6. A Sheer Cold KO at 0%. Groudon can't do that. DarkFox01 10:55, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  7. Can actually KO at lower percentages. 204.191.132.218 11:21, 28 April 2012 (EDT)

  9. Kyogre, use sheer cold! 99.235.62.184 14:02, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  10. Kyogre is better in Brawl and better in RSE, and its robot version is more useful than Groudon's in XD. No amount of me wanting to vote for the underdog can change this. 123JamesHeart PatheticStickFigure.jpg 15:33, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  11. OHKO potential vs low damage and knockback. No contest. King KirbyD KingKirbyD.png 16:45, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  12. Kyogre has always been the superior Pokemon to me. 110.174.90.69 23:04, 28 April 2012 (EDT)
  13. I really like water types more than ground types, also I like Kyogre's SHEER COLD!!!!!User:Smashtito 23:14, 29 April 2012 (EDT)
  14. In Gen 4, he was known as the King of Ubers, being the best pokemon in the game. In Brawl under normal situations, he's the only pokemon who can pretty much guarantee a KO without your involvement, and the only one who can KO the same opponent twice. The best pokemon in the RPGs, and the best pokemon in Brawl, while Groudon is by far the worst legendary in Brawl outside the gift givers and Manaphy. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 02:44, 29 April 2012 (EDT)
  15. Although I like Groudon better for a pokemon because it can use lots of fire type moves, in Brawl Kyogre is much better because it can just push others out of the screen easily. Stranger 1260 Master Ball.png 05:48, 29 April 2012 (EDT)

  1. Kyogre easily KOs people by pushing them off the stage, while Groudon only turns around on the spot wher it was summoned. Plus, Kyogre follows you everywhere, while Groudon is easy to dodge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.218.146 (talkcontribs) 01:07, 29 April (EDT)
  2. Kyogre moves around, blowing every opponent away with water. Groudon just chills around on one spot.-Kaizer24.185.135.102 01:48, 29 April 2012 (EDT)

  13. Although I love the designs of the Fighting Alloy Team a bit better, the Fighting Polygon Team is classic and nostalgic. I mean, just hearing the announcer go "(Player) versus...FIGHTING POLYGON TEAM!" makes you go "Oh, cool!...wait, wut?" with the team having such an unusual name (in both English and Japanese). The exaggerated purple polygon designs only add to the charm of these "Dummy Combo/Corps." small fry. And honestly, these guys can be quite challenging/annoying on the Very Hard level/setting in SSB 64's 1P mode. Imagine if a "Fighting Polygon Team" modeled after Melee or Brawl[='s=] characters were to exist in Multi-Man Melee/Brawl mode... *shudders* Oh, and their accompanying "Duel Zone" music rocks your socks off. 72.3.33.48 14:27, 26 April 2012 (EDT)
