Hand Slap is Donkey Kong's Down Special move. When performing it, Donkey Kong delivers an earth-shaking blow to the ground, sending nearby enemies skyward. Because of its considerable power, consistent and repetitive damage, and large hitbox, the move is often used against CPU Teams to clear them out with little trouble. In recent hands-on gamplay, this move can hold enemies in place while it is in action. It is unknown if they will be able to release themselves.
This move is used extensively in Multi-Man Melee and Brawl to quickly kill numerous opponents without fear of attack, as Wire Frames/Alloys have no projectile attacks. The only downside is that because items appear in this mode, a DK that is immobile due to using the move is open to various traps such as a Bob-omb walking into him although the large range of this attack usually keeps them away.
This move is the strongest attack against Bosses but only works on certain ground bosses. In Brawl, it is one of the few down special attacks that can't be used in the air.
An interesting note is that as long as one keeps pressing B after a hand slap, (s)he does not have to hold down the Control Stick for it to continue.
Origin
In Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong was able to do this move to get hidden items in the ground, though there weren't many place to do so. It also served as a second way to deal with enemies. In the game, however, DK would hit on the ground once with each hand each time, but was done the same way, by holding down and pressing attack. The move later appears in the Wii version of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.
Infinite Handslap Combo
The Infinite Handslap Combo is a technique performable only by Donkey Kong. To do it, get both you (playing as Donkey Kong) and your opponent (playing as any character) in an area with a flat, low-hanging ceiling (for example, Hyrule Temple). Use Hand Slap repeatedly.
This allows you to rack up damage quickly. However, it can be teched out of. It does not count as a combo by Training Mode's Combo meter since the opponent lands on the ground momentarily.
