Mr. Game & Watch (ゲーム&ウォッチ, Gēmu ando Uocchi) is a character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Though not officially confirmed on the Smash Bros. DOJO!! website, Mr. Game & Watch was indirectly revealed from a leaked copy of the game. One of the leaked screenshots shows Game & Watch's Final Smash, in which Mr. Game & Watch transforms into an octopus.

He has been spotted making some different poses from Melee, which are the only major aesthetic changes he has in Brawl. Additionally, Mr. Game & Watch can utilize his parachute to slow down his fall.

How to Unlock

Play 250 brawls or complete Classic mode with all characters.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Can catch projectiles in his bucket, which turns them into a powerful attack
  • Up B has great vertical height, can give decent distance through the parachute, and can be attacked out of
  • Quick and effective down and up tilts
  • Smashes are powerful finishers
  • Down air is a stall-then-fall aerial, allowing it to negate vertical knockback
  • Down air can spike in the initial falling frames
  • Small target
  • Up air pushes up characters above Game and Watch who aren't hit by the attack
  • Back aerial is an incredible multi-hit approach
  • Down throw sets up for a tech chasing game
  • Judgement 9 is a powerful launcher and often can kill at low percents

Cons:

  • Second lightest character in the game
  • Many attacks are slow in coming out, especially smashes
  • Roll and dash attack are rather poor (though improved over Melee)
  • Can be comboed fairly easily
  • Predictable recovery, has trouble sweet-spotting the edge

Changes from Melee to Brawl

  • Down tilt has more horizontal range
  • Chef throws out other foods
  • Mr. Game & Watch uses a parachute after his Up B, making him fall more slowly
  • New neutral air: Tropical Fish
  • Down air propels him downwards
  • Shield fully covers Mr. Game & Watch

Role in the Subspace Emissary

Snake, Meta Knight and Lucario come on to the bridge of the Halberd to discover a gang of Mr. Game and Watches are piloting the ship. The three quickly defeat them, throwing them through the window down to the deck in front of Shiek, Fox, and Peach. The clones then revert to Shadowbugs and form into a giant metal monster. Snake, Lucario, Falco and Meta Knight then jump down to to aid them. Once the monster is defeated, the Shadowbugs will disappear, leaving behind Mr. Game and Watch's trophy. Fox keeps a close eye on it with his blaster while Peach revives it. Mr. Game and Watch then bowed before the princess in gratitude. Then he became mesmerized by the parasol that Peach was holding. Mr. Game and Watch accompanies the heroes throughout the rest of the story and helps them take down Taboo.
