m (Not true. Kurama's run at the Ludwig Smash Invitational tied it in placement, was an overall better run going by wins and was probably a P tier if counted today. Also Dark Wizzy, Kurama and Snow have gotten 2nd at smaller majors before.)

The number of upsets were at the highest in top 64. Lunia continued his breakout run by scoring the biggest upset of the tournament, eliminating #18 {{Sm|Kameme}} at 33rd 3-1 as the 421th seed, for a upset factor 9, also defeating #60 {{Sm|Huto}} 3-1 (UF 6). #8 {{Sm|TamaPDaifuku}} losing to #40 {{Sm|Raki}} 1-3 and #6 {{Sm|Asimo}} losing to #27 {{Sm|alice}} 1-3 (both upset factor 5) are the first top 8 seeds upsets. Lv.1, after being upset early, lost 0-3 to #65 {{Sm|Omuatsu}} (UF 4), placing 49th, his worst result since {{Trn|Kagaribi 10}} one year ago, and #24 {{Sm|Toriguri}} lost 0-3 to #51 {{Sm|Gachipi}} (UF 3), finishing at 33rd. Both #16 Maister and #23 {{Sm|Gackt}} were send to loser's early, as Maister lost 1-3 to #48 {{Sm|Chicken}} and Gackt lost 0-3 to Kome (both UF 3).

After top 64, outside of #9 {{Sm|Tea}} (losing to Raki 1-3 in winner's side and #39 {{Sm|Akio}} in loser's, both UF 4, placing 13th), the upsets only concern top 8 seeds. Asimo was eliminated at 25th by #25 {{Sm|Shirayuki}} 1-3 (UF 5), and TamaP at 17th by #15 {{Sm|Akakikusu}} 0-3 (UF 2). Lastly, #4 {{Sm|Shuton}} and #5 {{Sm|Raru}} didn't make into top 8 despite reach winner's quarters, finishing at 9th. Shuton lost 1-3 to #13 {{Sm|Snow}} (UF 4) (the first time Snow defeated Shuton after losing to him 4 times) and #7 {{Sm|Doramigi}} 1-3 (UF 2), while Raru lost to Snow 2-3 and Akakikusu (both UF 3). As such, only half of the top 8 seeds make into top 8, with Miya, {{Sm|acola}}, and {{Sm|Hurt}} being the only three entering from the winner's side.

Conversely, this event was notable for being {{Sm|MkLeo}}'s best supermajor performance in months. After a close encounter with alice, choosing to play the entire set with just {{SSBU|Meta Knight}} and performing a reverse-3 stock in the final game, MkLeo barely lost to Hurt right outside of top 8 but was able to defeat Akio in yet another game 5 set using {{SSBU|Byleth}} in the final two games to enter top 8 from the loser's side, his first P-tier top 8 appearance since he won {{Trn|GENESIS 9}} in January 2023. He then decisively defeated {{Sm|Doramigi}} in a game 5 set with Meta Knight before being reverse 3-0'd by acola. With his 5th-place finish and his wins over several top players, including a player who many considered as a contender for the top 10 at that time, MkLeo's performance marks his best performance at a major since he won {{Trn|King Con}} back in February.  In addition, after losing to Kome, Zackray went on a 7-set loser's run, which includes eliminating Akakikusu and Hurt, before losing to acola to place 4th.

Umebura SP 11 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in Minato, Tokyo, Kantō, on September 14th-15th, 2024.

Tournament summary[edit]

Umebura SP 11 was the fourth P-tier of the 2024.2 season. Just like the last iteration in January, the tournament featured many of Japan's best players, including 68 of the 84 Japanese players ranked on the LumiRank 2024.1 top 150, with the only notable top Japanese player missing being Yaura, who was on a hiatus. Both Maister and MkLeo also came to the tournament, being the 2 main invaders.

The only two notable upsets over top players before top 256 were Bayonetta main and #223 Imokenpi defeating 3-2 #34 Yamanaction and Pichu main and #215 Kizuha defeating 3-2 #42 Lax (both being Upset factor 5). Both finished at 193rd, with Yamanaction losing 0-3 to #95 NaNo and Lax losing 1-3 to Wolf main and #170 Shori (UF 4).

In top 256, #17 Lv.1 lost 2-3 to #112 Crete (UF 5). Other notable upsets include #31 Reno losing to #98 Shion 2-3 (UF 4), #36 Navy losing to #164 Rearlet 0-3 (UF 4) and #37 Nao losing to #421 Lunia 2-3 (UF 7). In top 128, the number of upsets greatly increased. 3 top 16 seeds were notably upsets: #14 Yoshidora lost 2-3 to #78 Tsuna (UF 5), #12 KEN lost 2-3 to #76 Tameigo (UF 6) and #10 Zackray lost 1-3 to #55 Kome (UF 5). Additionally, #122 Tsubotsubo knocked out of the tournament #26 Umeki at 65th 0-3 (UF 4).

The number of upsets were at the highest in top 64. Lunia continued his breakout run by scoring the biggest upset of the tournament, eliminating #18 Kameme at 33rd 3-1 as the 421th seed, for a upset factor 9, also defeating #60 Huto 3-1 (UF 6). #8 TamaPDaifuku losing to #40 Raki 1-3 and #6 Asimo losing to #27 alice 1-3 (both upset factor 5) are the first top 8 seeds upsets. Lv.1, after being upset early, lost 0-3 to #65 Omuatsu (UF 4), placing 49th, his worst result since Kagaribi 10 one year ago, and #24 Toriguri lost 0-3 to #51 Gachipi (UF 3), finishing at 33rd. Both #16 Maister and #23 Gackt were send to loser's early, as Maister lost 1-3 to #48 Chicken and Gackt lost 0-3 to Kome (both UF 3).

After top 64, outside of #9 Tea (losing to Raki 1-3 in winner's side and #39 Akio in loser's, both UF 4, placing 13th), the upsets only concern top 8 seeds. Asimo was eliminated at 25th by #25 Shirayuki 1-3 (UF 5), and TamaP at 17th by #15 Akakikusu 0-3 (UF 2). #4 Shuton lost 1-3 to #13 Snow (UF 4) (the first time Snow defeated Shuton after losing to him 4 times) and #7 Doramigi 1-3 (UF 2) for 9th. Lastly, #5 Raru didn't make into top 8 despite reach winner's quarters, finishing at 9th, as he lost to Snow 2-3 and Akakikusu (both UF 3). As such, only half of the top 8 seeds make into top 8, with Miya, acola, and Hurt being the only three entering from the winner's side.

Conversely, this event was notable for being MkLeo's best supermajor performance in months. After a close encounter with alice, choosing to play the entire set with just Meta Knight and performing a reverse-3 stock in the final game, MkLeo barely lost to Hurt right outside of top 8 but was able to defeat Akio in yet another game 5 set using Byleth in the final two games to enter top 8 from the loser's side, his first P-tier top 8 appearance since he won GENESIS 9 in January 2023. He then decisively defeated Doramigi in a game 5 set with Meta Knight before being reverse 3-0'd by acola. With his 5th-place finish and his wins over several top players, including a player who many considered as a contender for the top 10 at that time, MkLeo's performance marks his best performance at a major since he won King Con back in February. In addition, after losing to Kome, Zackray went on a 7-set loser's run, which includes eliminating Akakikusu and Hurt, before losing to acola to place 4th.

In top 8, acola fell into loser's bracket after losing to Snow 2-3 (UF 7). However, aside from going to game 5 against MkLeo, acola was easily able to enter Grand Finals, where he once again had to face Miya. acola surprised audiences by playing the match with Pyra and Mythra, but although he was able to reset the bracket 2-3, Miya ultimately defeated acola 3-1 at yet another P-tier; not only did Miya win back-to-back Japanese P-tiers, but this was also his fourth P-tier win in 2024, placing him as a contender to dethrone acola as the best player in Japan.
