Entei (エンテイ, Entei) is a creature from the Pokémon media franchise.
Origin
Entei is a Fire-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation II, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #244 as the "Volcano Pokémon". Along with Raikou and Suicune, Entei is part of a trio commonly referred as the legendary beasts: in Pokémon Gold and Silver and their remakes Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver they can be found in the Burned Tower, however when interacted with they run away. Entei can then be found randomly in any route, and will attempt to run away whenever it gets a free turn unless it gets trapped by a move like Mean Look or an ability like Shadow Tag: however, any damage and status conditions received will be retained. Entei also has an apparent ancient relative known as Gouging Fire, a Paradox Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon Scarlet.
Fire Spin is a Fire-type move that Entei can learn naturally. While weak (35 base power, 15 before Generation V) it traps the opponent for five turns, inflicting damage at the end of every turn and preventing it from fleeing or being switched out.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Entei is treated as a "legendary" Poké Ball Pokémon; its chance of appearing is much rarer than most of the others, but in return, its effect is more powerful. Entei uses Fire Spin as its attack. A column of fire will surround Entei's body when it executes this attack. Any character caught in the column of fire, excluding the summoner, will take damage, up to 72% if all hits connect. The character is also forced towards the top of the screen when they get caught in the column of fire. The attack can be DI'd out of, limiting its effectiveness.
As a stage
Entei appears as a stage that can only be played in Event 26: Trophy Tussle 2.
The battle takes place on the Entei trophy. With Entei's side facing the screen, the arena is relatively large, giving fighters ample room to battle. When the player beats the event match, they will earn the Entei Trophy. The stage cannot be unlocked, and can only be played outside Event 26 with certain cheat devices such as Action Replay.
Trophy
The Entei trophy is unlocked by completing Event 26: Trophy Tussle 2 for the first time.
- Entei
- A volcanic Fire-type, Entei is hotter than liquid magma and as tough as nails. This powerful creature was one of the three Pokémon running around the Burned Tower of Ecruteak City. Entei is extremely difficult to seek out and capture, as it tends to wander all over the landscape, sprouting intense flames from its body.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Entei reprises its role as a Poké Ball Pokémon from Super Smash Bros. Melee in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When released, it uses Fire Spin in a near-identical fashion to his attack in Melee. Entei's entrance animation is much more intense than it was in Melee. Upon being summoned, it roars and stands on its hind legs before executing its attack. The new Fire Spin attack retains most of the same qualities it had in Melee, including damage. It can be seen as a version of Ho-oh with inferior range and damage output, but much faster startup.
Trophy
- Entei
- A Volcano Pokémon. When Entei barks, a volcano erupts, and it's said that a new Entei is born every time a volcano appears. A proverb claims that the warmth of summer is created by Entei racing through the clouds. Entei uses Fire Spin, a flaming vortex that traps and damages foes for multiple turns.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Entei appears in Super Smash Bros. 4 as a Poké Ball and Master Ball Pokémon, keeping its Brawl behavior except that the final hit now has KO potential.
Trophy
The Entei trophy is available in both versions of the game. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U it is part of the Legends of Johto Trophy Box.
- Entei
- One of the three Legendary Pokémon that rose from the ashes of the Burned Tower. It has a distinct white mane running down its back. When brought into battle, it unleashes a powerful Fire Spin attack that pulls in enemies, damages them, and then launches them as the fires peter out. Ouch!

- One of the three Legendary Pokémon to rise from the ashes of the Burned Tower. It has a distinctive white mane running along its back. Its powerful Fire Spin attack will suck in any fighters nearby and trap them, dealing damage all the while. When the fire burns itself out, any fighters within are blasted off the stage.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Entei returns as a Poké Ball summon.
Entei cannot be summoned on Golden Plains, Green Hill Zone, or Tortimer Island.
Spirit
Entei also appears alongside Raikou and Suicune as an Ace-class primary spirit.
In Adventure Mode: World of Light, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are presumably three of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. After Galeem's defeat, Dharkon takes control of Galeem's spirits, including Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. Raikou, Entei, & Suicune's spirit is located in the southwestern area of The Dark Realm.
Entei's Spirit Battle uses an Incineroar puppet fighter and is fought on the Suzaku Castle stage. He is fought along the Pikachu and Greninja puppet fighters representing Raikou and Suicune respectively. During the battle, the floor is made of lava, referencing how Raikou, Entei, and Suicune were initially three unknown Pokémon who perished at the fire of the Brass Tower.
