acola (あcola) is a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Steve player with a Kazuya secondary from Japan who is considered to be the current best player in the world. acola has gained a worldwide spotlight due to his impressive consistency as a player, arguably on par with the likes of MkLeo; up until Maesuma Offline (Shikoku), he had made grand finals at every offline tournament he attended, including winning his first major at Maesuma TOP 7, his first supermajor at Kagaribi 7, and his first invitational major and overseas tournament at The Gimvitational. His victory at Maesuma TOP 7 made him the youngest Ultimate player to win a major, at the age of 15 years old. He is also the only Ultimate player to win the first major and supermajor that they attended.
He frequently enters single-elimination live tournaments on Smashmate. He was ranked 1st on the Smashmate SP ranking from the 15th season to the 20th season, and is the first player to achieve a 2,500 rating. He is currently ranked 1st on the LumiRank Mid-Year 2023 as well as 39th on the Experimental Smash Player Rankings.

Pre-Offline
Acola would start off as a Wi-Fi Warrior on Smashmate during the COVID-19 pandemic. While he would mostly use Steve, he would use all sorts of characters including Luigi and Donkey Kong.
Becoming The Best Steve Main
While Acola performed well online, it was only a mere taste of what he had to offer going forward. Acola's first offline event would be at Maesuma Offline in February of 2022. Despite this being his first offline tournament and his high seed, he shattered everyone's expectations by getting 2nd place, beating players such as Yaura (After losing to him in a close game 5 last hit), Hero, Raito and Kome losing to Shuton in Grand Finals.
Acola's next tournament would be a month later at Sumabato SP 24, where he would have a similar run to his previous tournament. After falling to HIKARU in Top 24 Winners, Acola would go on impressive losers run beating Kuroponzu, Chichibu Travel, showers, Chichibu Travel, Lunamado, Abadango, Kome, and Asimo to get to Grand Finals versus HIKARU. Unlike his previous tournament, however, Acola would walk away victorious as he would double eliminate HIKARU to win the event. Solidifying this as Acola's first offline victory.
Acola would then win the next two tournaments he entered, Ignite 1 and Maesuma Offline 2 respectively. However, this was only the beginning. As Acola would enter his first major in May, Maesuma TOP 7. Despite being the 9th seed, Acola would have yet another impressive run. After nearly losing in Top 128 to Inkling main Levi, Acola would make it to Top 24 Winners. Fortunately for Acola, the #1 seed of the tournament ProtoBanham would fall at 17th making his run slightly easier. Given this, Acola would defeat Paseriman 2-1 and Jogibu 2-0 respectively to make it to top 8 winners. In Winners Semis, Acola would fall 1-2 to fellow rising star Yoshidora putting him in losers. Despite this, Acola would go on yet another impressive losers run defeating Hero 2-0, Tea 2-1, and Yoshidora 3-1 in the runback putting him in Grand Finals. Awaiting him was Shuton, and unlike their encounter at Maesuma Offline, Acola would double Elimite Shuton beating him 3-2 to reset the bracket and 3-0 to win the tournament. Marking this as Acola's first major win.
Acola's next tournament would be a mere 3 days later at Kagaribi 7. By then, lots of players overseas had heard the news about his run at Maesuma TOP 7, so expectations were high for him. Despite his previous tournaments, Acola had a very low seed in this tournament. Being Marked as the 57th Seed would make this an extremely difficult run. Despite the low seed, however, Acola once again went beyond expectations. In top 128 Winners, he would have two very close sets with yuzu and Yoshidora putting him in Top 96 Winners. From there, Acola seemed unstoppable, beating Konokururu 3-0, Omuatsu 3-2 and Lea 3-1, ending up in top 8 winners. From there, he managed to reverse 3-0 Gackt before double eliminating Asimo (who was also having a breakout performance) to win his first supermajor.
Due to Acola's dominance in Japan, he was regarded as the best Steve player in the world. With many players saying that he was the next Sparg0 or MkLeo in terms of dominance. Where he could potentially be, not just the best player in Japan, but one of the overall best players in the entire world.
Becoming #2 in the world
Due to his win at Kagaribi 7, both Acola and Asimo were awarded spots at The Gimvitational, which would end up being Acola's first tournament overseas. Despite losing Sumabato SP 26, Acola would continue to impress everyone by dominating the competition. Acola would solidly win Round Robin defeating Ferps and Kola 3-2 and Larry Lurr 3-0, putting him in Top 12 Winners. Acola's first opponent would be Marss, and despite Acola claiming that Marss's main Zero Suit Samus is Steve's hardest matchup. Acola dominated, defeating Marss in a swift 3-0. From there, Acola would steamroll his competition, beating Asimo, Riddles and Light 3-1 to win his first overseas tournament.
Unfortunately, Acola's next offline tournament would result in his lowest placement at an offline event at the time. He would attend Maesuma Offline (Shikoku) and get a disappointing 4th place after losing to Falco main Kashiya and Roy main alice. Despite this, however, Acola would go on a 2-month long winning streak. During this time, he had several notable tournament wins. One of his biggest being Sumabato SP 29 where he would go on an impressive losers run despite falling in Top 48 winners to Wi-Fi Zero Suit Samus player Meido. He would go on a 10 Set Losers Run streak to take the tournament, and he would also double eliminate fellow prodigy Miya in the process. Acola also managed to win the major Maesuma TOP 9 while only dropping 3 games the entire tournament. Acola would then pull out his online secondary Kazuya, who he used to defeat Shirayuki and Tsumusuto 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.
Acola would travel overseas for his next tournament Smash Ultimate Summit 5. Being the #2 seed of the tournament, expectations were once again, very high for the young Steve player, as many expected him to take the tournament. Despite losing to Dabuz 1-3, he would defeat Cosmos 3-2 and Myran 3-0 to place first in his pool. Cementing himself in Top 12 winners. On the last day of Summit, Acola would be upset by Kola in their run back from The Gimvitational, putting him in losers. After losing, Acola would make top 8 after narrowly defeating Anathema 3-2. Acola would continue his run by narrowly defeating Tweek 3-2 (after he eliminated the tournament's #1 seed MkLeo) and Riddles 3-1 to make it to losers semifinals. From there, it appeared like Acola would pull off yet another impressive losers run. However, he would once again be eliminated at a disappointing 4th place, losing to Light in a close 3-2 set. His worst placement at an offline tournament since Maesuma Offline (Shikoku).

- The only players that acola holds negative records against in offline Ultimate tournaments are Sparg0 (1-6), MkLeo (1-2), MuteAce (1-2), Kameme (0-1), and Kashiya (0-1).
- acola is the lowest-seeded player to ever win an Ultimate supermajor, being seeded 57th before going on to place first at Kagaribi 7.
- He is one of five players to win an Ultimate major while being seeded outside of the top 16, alongside ProtoBanham (won Kagaribi 4 as the 25th seed), Quidd (won Let's Make Big Moves 2022 as the 32nd seed), Kuro (won Umebura SP 6 as the 37th seed) and Miya (won Kagaribi 8 as the 17th seed).
- acola and Otori are the only two international players who won the first American major they attended.
- acola holds the known record for the longest Elite Smash win streak without rematching opponents at 740 wins, beating Yoshidora's record of 638 wins.[1][2]
