Originally shown in the Subspace Emissary trailer, Peach (ピーチ, Pīchi) was later confirmed as a playable character on August 17. Her play style appears to be relatively unchanged, as she still possesses her floating ability, as well as her four distinct Special Moves. She has, however, been updated graphically.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Can Float.
  • Auto-Floating allows use of aerials at ground level, allowing for a highly-integrated ground and air game, and removing the need for dashing
  • Between the float, her second jump, her parasol, and small contributions by the Peach Bomber and Toad, she has the longest and most versatile horizontal recoveries in the game.
  • Her Turnips are useful projectiles, especially for edgeguarding.
  • There is a chance of pulling a Bob-omb or Beam Sword when using Vegetable.
  • There is a 1/58 chance that she can pull a Vegetable that deals 30% damage or more.
  • Down Smash is quick and has several powerful, high priority hits.
  • Neutral attack slap is good for disrupting combos and grabs, as well as starting combos of her own.
  • Forward Aerial Crown Slap a great horizontal killer.
  • Peach Bomber has excellent range.
  • Turnips can be used over and over.
  • Can Glide Toss her Turnips.
  • Turnips disappear once they touch a shield and opponents can't grab it.
  • Remarkably long horizontal recovery if her float is intact
  • Quick, effective close-up game
  • Little lag for aerials with float cancels

Cons:

  • Floaty.
  • Slow dash speed (4th slowest dash speed in the game).
  • Vertical recovery is rather poor.
  • Shortest vertical mid-air jump in the game (Slightly shorter than Link's & Ganondorf's)
  • Noticeable ending lag if you fail to connect with Peach Bomber.
  • Dies vertically at relatively low percents.
  • Her Turnips disappear once they hit a shield, which removes the possibility of using a turnip again
  • Few kill moves and hard to KO at moderate percentages

Changes from Melee to Brawl

  • Dash attack does two hits
  • Down Smash range decreased, no longer sucks in as easily
  • Turnips disappear when they hit a shield or attack
  • Larger chance of pulling a Beam Sword, Bob-omb, or Mr. Saturn when Vegetable is used
  • Can no longer float cancel
  • Aerial movement speed has decreased, no longer in the Top 5 like it was in Melee
  • Peach Bomber releases a cloud of hearts instead of an explosion (possibly a homage to Super Princess Peach)

Role in The Subspace Emissary

Peach and Zelda both watched Mario and Kirby's match near the beginning of The Subspace Emissary. After the match is won, both Peach and Zelda run to their aid when the Subspace Army attacks. After defeating all of the Primids, the Ancient Minister appears, and drops a Subspace Bomb, which is quickly armed by two R.O.B.s. Mario is blasted away by a cannonball when he attempts to disarm the Subspace Bomb, while Peach and Zelda are both captured by Petey Piranha. At this point, it is up to the player to decide which one to save. In a cutscene, Kirby delivers a final blow to Petey Piranha, who then becomes engulfed in flames and explodes shortly after. Kirby and Peach/Zelda land safely away from the explosion. They turn to see Wario appear, his eyes on Zelda/Peach, who has been freed from her cage as well, but seems somewhat weak; she is also a little farther away from the others. Wario is carrying a device called a Dark Cannon, which he points at the tired Zelda/Peach, charges it up, and fires the blast. A black arrow extends from the device and hits Zelda/Peach in the chest, knocking her into the air. She is then turned into a trophy, which Wario takes and runs. Peach/Zelda and Kirby are shocked by this and begin to escape when Kirby sees the Subspace Bomb, which only has five seconds left. Kirby and Peach/Zelda take off as the bomb hits zero, and a blast of Subspace engulfs the stadium. Luckily, Kirby and Peach/Zelda escape on a Warp Star at the last minute. They fly through the air, pursued by the Halberd, before they are forced to land on it. Soon after, an Arwing (piloted by Fox) gets shot down, blowing Peach/Zelda and Kirby off the Halberd as it falls and onto the ground below.

Later, Peach/Zelda is attacked by Bowser, who transforms her into a trophy, and leaves a Shadowbug clone in her place. The clone attempts to shoot a passing Mario/Link with a Dark Cannon, but Link/Pit destroys the cannon and fights the clone with his partner. Unfortunately, Mario/Link sees the fake trophy of the princess dissolving at Link's/Mario's feet, and Mario and Pit faces off against Link and Yoshi. Peach/Zelda is brought to the Halberd and imprisoned in a cage along with Zelda/Peach.

While infiltrating the Halberd, Meta Knight, Lucario, and Snake enter a room where they find the princesses, but before they could save them, Shadowbugs engulf their trophies to create clones that attack the three. After restoring the princesses, Snake signals them to stay where they are while he and the others retake the ship. However, Peach and Zelda (as Sheik) strike out on their own to investigate the matter themselves. They make their way to the Halberd's top deck, just as Fox attacks the ship, again in his Arwing. Peach calmly walks in during the fire-fight with her parasol, but when some of the Arwing's blasters nearly hits her, Sheik forces Fox to eject by breaking through the cockpit. As the two begin to fight, Peach stops them by offering them tea, which they both accept.

Meta Knight, Snake, and Lucario discover that the Halberd is being piloted by Mr. Game & Watch clones, which Snake knocks out the window and onto the deck below. The clones revert into Shadowbugs, which transform into a boss named Duon. Fortunately, Peach, Sheik, and Fox are joined by Snake and Lucario, along with Falco. When Duon is defeated, the real Mr. Game & Watch's trophy is left behind as the Shadowbugs float away. Fox prepares to blast the trophy, but Peach casually walks over and revives him, scolding him when he awakes. Peach then gives him her parasol as a token of friendship.

Single Event Matches

  • Event 28: Flower Blooms in the Echoes- Note: All of the leaves on the right flower must turn red in order for the flower to bloom on top. You are free to KO Olimar and complete the event solo.
  • Event 35: The Visitor to Flat Zone- As Mr. Game & Watch, KO Peach, Toon Link and Jigglypuff on Flat Zone 2. All three opponents have the "Game & Watch" effect on their models.

Co-op Events

Co-Op Event 11: The Great Remodeling Battle: As Peach and Luigi, earn 300 coin without breaking Luigi's Mansion.

Co-Op Event 21: The True All-Star Battle: Select your characters and take on the entire roster on Battlefield.

Moveset

Ground Attacks

Normal

  • Dash Attack - Strikes with both arms extended forward, then quickly spreads her arms out. Deals a two-hit combo. Each hit deals 4% damage, racking up to 8% damage if both hits land.
  • Neutral Attack - Double slap. Deals a two-hit combo. Each slap deals 3% damage, racking up to 6% damage if both hits land. Quick, and good for interrupting combos, and keeping opponents away from you.
  • Forward Tilt - A 180 degree high kick. Can deal up to 14% damage up close, and as low as 10% damage from further away.
  • Up Tilt - Raises hand up, creating a heart cloud. Deals 13% damage.
  • Down Tilt - A downward hand sweep to the ground. Deals 10% damage. Has good vertical knockback, and can Meteor Smash opponents hanging on ledge.

Smash

  • Forward Smash - Strikes with either a frying pan, a golf club, or a tennis racket. Damage and knockback vary with each weapon.
    • Frying Pan - Deals 18% damage. Vertical Knockback.
    • Golf Club - Deals 15% damage. Diagonal Knockback.
    • Tennis Racket - Deals 12% damage. Horizontal Knockback.
  • Up Smash - Twirls around with arm raised. Can deal up to 17% damage. Powerful vertical knockback, if connects. Peach's strongest smash, in terms of knockback.
  • Down Smash - Spins dress around like a blade, slashing whoever gets caught in it. Can deal a four-hit combo (although, landing all four hits is hard to manage, even against heavy characters.) Each hit deals 5% damage, racking up to 20% if all four hits land.

Aerial Attacks

  • Neutral Air - Spins around with arms extended. Deals 13% damage. Decent knockback. Good for edgeguarding.
  • Forward Air - Strikes with her crown (aka: Crown Slap.) Deals 15% damage. Good knockback. Good for edgeguarding.
  • Back Air - Attacks with her butt. Deals 14% damage.
  • Up Air - An upward kick. Deals 13% damage. Good for aerial combos.
  • Down Air - A series of four downward kicks. Can deal a four-hit combo. First three kicks deal 3% damage each, with the fourth kick dealing 5% damage, racking up to 14% damage if all four kicks land. Fourth kick has weak vertical knockback.

Grabs & Throws

  • Pummel - Stomps on grabbed opponent with high-heels. Deals 2% damage per hit.
  • Back Throw - Places opponent behind her and bumps him/her away with hips. Deals 11% damage. Decent horizontal knockback.
  • Forward Throw - Slaps opponent away. Deals 10% damage. Decent knockback.
  • Up Throw - Puts opponent above her, and volleys him/her upward. Despite quick animation, this throw deals two hits. First hit deals 2% damage, while second hit deals 6% damage, racking up to 8% damage in total.
  • Down Throw - Sits on opponent. Deals 7% damage. Great for chain-grabbing heavy characters at low percentages.

Strategies & Tips

  • Peach is one of the best edgeguarders in Brawl. Due to her lack of killing moves, edgeguarding is the best option to use when trying to KO an opponent.
  • Peach's Vegetables have no Stale-Move Negation. They should be used frequently, whenever possible. The more you use, the greater chance you have of pulling her 30% damage dealing Vegetable. They could also be used for edgeguarding.
  • Crown Slap shouldn't be overly relied on when ground floating, as it has noticeable lag if it fails to connect. It is better to use Neutral Air more often, or if the opponent is behind Peach, Back Air, as these attacks are quick, and have almost no lag time.
  • Double Slap is perfect for countering, and have more range than grabbing. Good alternative if opponent is too far to grab.
  • Peach's Forward Smash has very little range, and poor knockback for a smash attack. Don't rely on too much when trying to KO an opponent.
  • Peach Bomber is Peach's slowest attack, by far. Noticeable lag for both starting animation, and ending animation, if it fails to connect, meaning its very easy to dodge, and very easy to get countered from it. This move is best used for multiplayer, not one-on-one.
  • Use Down Throw for chain grabbing opponents at low percentages.
  • Toad is useful when edgeguarding opponents' third jumps. This move can also be used off the edge of the stage, as it is considered a recovery move itself.

Mei Ling: Princess Peach is the beloved ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. She’s been kidnapped numerous times by Bowser.

S: Sounds pretty serious...

M: Yes, but every time it happens, Mario ends up saving her. Sure, he may not look like your ideal “knight in shining armor.” A little on the short side, I’d say... But still, don’t you think it’s romantic? I mean, to have a guy who’s always there for you?

S: If he was smart, he’d tell her to stop getting kidnapped.

M: ... You don’t get a lot of dates, do you, Snake?

Special Movements

Taunts

Up: Takes her parasol out and spins it, saying "Sweet".

Side: Sings and dances in a taunting manner ("Ring Around the Rosie") while holding her dress, and musical notes appear.

Down: Spins around, winks, points, bends a little and says "Uh-huh!". (Same animation as Melee, but with changed sounds)

On-Screen Appearance

Appears spinning with her parasol, and says "Hi!"

Victory Pose

  • Victory Theme: Mushroom Kingdom Theme
  • Spins and waves to the screen, saying "Oh, did I win?"
  • Swings her arm out and puts it behind her, saying "Peachy!"
  • Turns to her left and says "This is fun!"

Wii Remote Choice

Says "Sweet". Sounds similar to her Melee taunt than her Brawl taunt.

Trivia

  • In the Subspace Emissary, when Peach jumps on the giant fan located in a secret door, she can´t get down when she is in the part that blows air.
  • Peach's yellow costume makes her resemble Princess Daisy from Super Mario Land.
  • Peach is one of few characters that can talk in Subspace Emissary. She is shown talking during the revival of Mr. Game & Watch's trophy state. She says "No!" and then gives him her parasol and giggles.
  • According to an interview with Sakurai, Peach's entire character layout (attack configuration, animation schemes, etc..) was one of the most time consuming of all characters (Mostly referring to melee to brawl configurations).
