Apple is an item that can only appear in the Green Greens stage in Melee, Brawl, and Ultimate.
Overview
On the stage, Whispy Woods shakes his branches every 80 seconds, causing 2 to 5 apples to spawn on the stage. Apples spawned by Whispy Woods come in two variants. One variant acts as a standard healing item, recovering 10% of a character's damage. The second variant acts as a throwing item that can inflict average knockback and 7 to 14% damage; they also have a chance of exploding when thrown, like Eggs, in which case they deal 22% damage with high knockback. Both variants can damage characters as they fall from the Whispy Woods, dealing about 1% each with weak vertical knockback.
Apples disappear faster than most other items, similar to the Hammer head.

Trophy information
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Fruit that falls from above when you're battling Whispy Woods. Kirby can suck them up and spit them out as useful projectile weapons. They're nice to have around when you don't have any Copy Abilities, but they do damage when they hit you, so they can be a bother too. They offer no ability when swallowed. These apples are not produced by Whispy Woods.

- : Kirby Super Star
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
The Apples trophy is part of the The Beginning of Kirby Trophy Box.
This isn't an enemy at all. It's just an apple. Still, they're something to watch out for--Whispy Woods will try to hit you on the head with them. Some enemies like to roll around on them too. Apples come in two varieties--one gives you health, and the other you can throw. And, needless to say, Kirby's favorite food is... Oh, it's tomatoes.

Origin
In many different Kirby games, apples have sometimes appeared in various levels. They usually appear alongside a Whispy Woods boss fight, implying that Whispy is an Apple Tree. Kirby is able to inhale them and spit them back out at enemies. Waiting for apples to drop, then inhaling them and spitting them back out is the intended strategy to defeat Whispy.
