Creature description

Venusaur is the fully-evolved form of the Grass/Poison-type starter Pokémon in Pokémon, and its GBA remake, which begins with Bulbasaur and continues with Ivysaur. Ivysaur can evolve into Venusaur from level 32 onwards.

Venusaur is a massive blue squat quadrupedal saurian with a giant pink flower on its back. It absorbs the sunlight's solar energy with its broad petals and converts the sunlight into energy and nutrition. As a result, it is more powerful in the summertime, and it stays on the move to seek sunlight and stands quiet and still when it has found a good position to absorb it. As it warms itself and absorbs the sunlight, its flower petals release a pleasant fragrance that can sooth the emotions of people and becalm those engaged in battle. The flower also smells stronger after a rainy day, and this scent attracts other Pokémon. The flower is said to take on vivid colors if it gets plenty of nutrition and sunlight.

In Super Smash Bros.

As a stage element

Venusaur is one of five Pokémon which appear on the Saffron City stage in Super Smash Bros. It attacks using Razor Leaf.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

Vensaur makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Melee and comes out of Poké Balls. Venusaur uses Earthquake as its attack. The ground around Venusaur will shake and the player will see debris coming out of the ground to indicate the attack's radius. Any character that touches the ground within Earthquake's radius will take damage. The character is also forced towards the top of the screen and have a high chance of being KO'd at high percentages. Venusaur's attack does not harm the summoner.

As a stage element

A giant balloon of Venusaur (in actuality the 3D model of Venusaur used in Pokémon Stadium for Nintendo 64) is one of the many floating and bending "platforms" that comprise the Poké Floats stage.

As a trophy

Venusaur features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Evolving from Ivysaur, this deceptively toxic Pokémon has a huge flower on its back that emits a cloying fragrance: the scent lulls its enemies into a state of calmness. Venusaur's flower synthesizes sunshine into pure energy for its Solarbeam move. Think of Grass- and Poison-type Pokémon and Venusaur comes first.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

In Brawl, Venusaur did not return as a Poké Ball Pokemon. This was mainly due to the fact that Ivysaur was now a playable character. Venusaur's Earthquake ability was passed on to Metagross.
