Lugia (ルギア, Rugia) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.
Creature description
Lugia is a legendary Pokémon that first appeared in Pokémon Silver and Pokémon Gold versions, in the depths of the Whirl Islands in the Johto region. Its Pokédex number is #249. Lugia is a large dragon-like creature that is larger than its "counterpart", the phoenix Ho-oh. It has big white wings and most of it's body is covered in the color white. The stomach area of Lugia is blue along with it's eye color. Lugia has power over the Legendary Birds, those being Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres. Similar to Ho-oh having power over the Legendary Dogs.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
As a Poké Ball Pokémon
Lugia uses Aeroblast as its attack. Lugia will remain on the screen for a few seconds, then will fly off the screen to the background of the stage (similar to the movement Ho-oh). Lugia will release it's Aeroblast that will travel around the stage. Any character that makes contact with the blast will take heavy damage and may die at low percentages. Any character that makes contact with Lugia while it's remaining on the stage will take damage. (Similar to Moltres). Lugia is a legendary Pokémon, so its appearance out of a Poké Ball is rare. The chance of Lugia appearing out of a Poké Ball is doubled when the event match Legendary Pokémon is played. Lugia's attack does not harm the summoner.
As a trophy
Lugia features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:
- Lugia:
- The waters of the Whirl Islands are home to this legendary Pokemon, whom few have seen. Lugia lives quietly in the deepest ocean trenches for one very good reason: its combined aerial and psychic powers are so strong as to be extremely dangerous. The special moves of this gargantuan creature include the destructive wind assault known as Aeroblast. (Pokemon Gold & Silver 10/10)
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Lugia reprises its role from Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is sent out and uses Aeroblast.
