The '''Wi-Fi Warrior Rank''' ('''WWR''') is a biannual list ranking the top 50 best players in online ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'' tournaments. Created by {{Sm|Tacos|p=Ohio}} and {{Sm|Cloudhead}}, the WWR initially served the same purpose for online {{forwiiu}} tournaments, doing so in its first two seasons, before making the transition to Ultimate for its third season onward. The WWR was not open-entry when it came to which events could qualify, and it instead pulled from a semi-predetermined list of weekly series. However, once a series grew in size and their tournaments regularly met the WWR's qualifying standards, they may have been added mid-season. No tournaments were included that restricted which players could enter on a large scale, such as sub-only or region-locked tournaments. | The WWR was not open-entry when it came to which events could qualify, and it instead pulled from a semi-predetermined list of weekly series. The core structure of the WWRv2 remains the same as last season, with some minor changes. The value of individual wins has been reduced, as have the tournament values of standard weekly tournaments. As was the case in the previous season, no tournaments are included that restrict their playerbase by subs or location; and no players are included who have attended less than four tournaments, are banned in multiple series, or have requested to be left off. | The core structure of the WWRv2 remains the same as last season, with some minor changes. In addition, an X-factor ranking will be presented alongside the regular ranking. Much like that of the [[Panda Global Rankings]], this is a separate, panel-based ranking, with TOs and top Wi-fi players participating in a survey to rank the WWR candidates. | In addition, an X-factor ranking will be presented alongside the regular ranking. The WWRv3's presentation remains the same as the WWRv2, maintaining the Area 51 and X-Factor ratings. However, the structure of the WWRv3 had some major changes. Firstly, weeklies were no longer counted for the rankings. Only "majors", which were tournaments that occurred on at least a monthly basis, would be counted. Secondly, the WWR was made open-entry, and any tournament could be eligible for the rankings, not just the ones hosted by the major series. The only criteria for being included were that the WWR team must have been notified two weeks before the tournament started, and the tournament must have reached C-tier status at least one week before it started. Lastly, Naifu Wars was once again included in the ranking, with the stipulation that only the first Naifu Wars of each month would be counted, as long as it was open-entry. | The WWRv3's presentation remains the same as the WWRv2, maintaining the Area 51 and X-Factor ratings. The WWRv3's Tournament Tier System (TTS) was made public this time, with each tournament receiving a tier rating based on either its total entrant count or the amount of WWR-ranked players who attended the tournament. For the first half of the season, the amount of players on the WWRv2 was counted, but in the second half, this was switched to the in-progress WWRv3 top 50 to keep up with the new meta of Smash Ultimate as best as possible. | The WWRv3's Tournament Tier System (TTS) was made public this time, with each tournament receiving a tier rating based on either its total entrant count or the amount of WWR-ranked players who attended the tournament. Unlike previous seasons, there were very few changes made to the WWR between the v3 and v4 seasons. Major tournaments were eligible by the same criteria and methods as before, either by way of belonging to a major series or by submission to the WWR team. | |||

Revision as of 13:20, February 1, 2020
The Wi-Fi Warrior Rank (WWR) is a biannual list ranking the top 50 best players in online Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments. Created by Tacos and Cloudhead, the WWR initially served the same purpose for online Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournaments, doing so in its first two seasons, before making the transition to Ultimate for its third season onward. The first iteration of the WWR used data from January - June 2018, and was released fully in July 22nd, 2018. The second iteration of the WWR featured tournaments from July - November 2018, and released fully in December 5th, 2018. The third iteration, and first Ultimate iteration, counted tournaments from December 2018 - June 2019, and released fully on July 26, 2019. The fourth and current iteration counted tournaments from July 2019 - December 2019, and released fully on January 31st, 2020.
Methods
WWRv1
The WWR was not open-entry when it came to which events could qualify, and it instead pulled from a semi-predetermined list of weekly series. However, once a series grew in size and their tournaments regularly met the WWR's qualifying standards, they may have been added mid-season. No tournaments were included that restricted which players could enter on a large scale, such as sub-only or region-locked tournaments.
The first WWR was compiled using the results of ten of the largest open-entry Wi-fi series:

WWRv2
The core structure of the WWRv2 remains the same as last season, with some minor changes. The value of individual wins has been reduced, as have the tournament values of standard weekly tournaments. As was the case in the previous season, no tournaments are included that restrict their playerbase by subs or location; and no players are included who have attended less than four tournaments, are banned in multiple series, or have requested to be left off.
In addition, an X-factor ranking will be presented alongside the regular ranking. Much like that of the Panda Global Rankings, this is a separate, panel-based ranking, with TOs and top Wi-fi players participating in a survey to rank the WWR candidates.
Series Evaluated
The WWRv2 includes tournaments from six active, open-entry series, as well as three inactive series that were active at some point during the season.
Series | Day(s) | Status |
---|---|---|
Smashing Legends | Wednesday, Saturday | Active |
Eclipse Smash | Monday, Friday | Active |
Smash Station | Thursday, Saturday | Active |

Major Tournaments
These tournaments are the only ones whose tournament values are not reduced. They generally feature increased prize pots and separate branding in comparison to their associated weeklies, and if they are recurring, must do so no more than once per month.

WWRv3
Tournament Tier System
The WWRv3's Tournament Tier System (TTS) was made public this time, with each tournament receiving a tier rating based on either its total entrant count or the amount of WWR-ranked players who attended the tournament. For the first half of the season, the amount of players on the WWRv2 was counted, but in the second half, this was switched to the in-progress WWRv3 top 50 to keep up with the new meta of Smash Ultimate as best as possible.
The full TTS spreadsheet can be found here.
