Trivia
- This tournament stands as CaptainZack's worst placing since his 97th place finish at CEO 2016, placing 49th losing to Arhungry and Kuma.
- CaptainZack announced his retirement from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U singles after his elimination from the tournament, but clarified that he would continue to participate in doubles events. He later announced that he would continue playing Smash Wii U singles as a Peach main however.
- This is Zain's first win at a major as well as the first major win in Melee for someone in the MD/VA area since Azen at Viva La Smashtaclysm in 2007. In addition, Zain became the first "documentary kid" to win a major.

- In response to the Jacksonville shooting earlier that day, a moment of silence was held before Super Smash Bros. Melee grand finals.
