“ | Lucario is the only fighter whose attack power increases as it takes damage. A fighter that truly shines when in a pinch, choose Lucario for a thrilling battle. | ” |

Lucario (ルカリオ, Lucario) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was confirmed as a playable character on June 12th, 2018. Sean Schemmel reprises his role as Lucario in the English version of the game through reused voice clips from Smash 4. Lucario is classified as fighter #41.
Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4
Aesthetics
- Like all veterans returning from SSB4, Lucario's model features a more subdued color scheme. Its fur is more detailed, similar to Brawl.
- Aura is now cyan in color instead of indigo, and its visual effects are smoother. At high aura, the flames produced are more vibrant and intense, leaving behind a trail as Lucario moves.
- Lucario is much lighter, which makes it harder to survive and take advantage of aura.
Attributes
- Like all characters, Lucario's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.
- Lucario dashes faster.
- Lucario's air speed is much faster, now being on par with Yoshi (SSB4)'s.
- Lucario's Aura is weaker in terms of racking up damage, however, his moves are stronger with little to no aura.
Ground attacks
- All three hits of his neutral attack have less ending lag.
- Forward tilt has a new animation, with Lucario leaning back before the palm thrust.
- Forward tilt has more range, and links better into the second hit.
- Forward smash has longer range.
- Forward smash has more vibrant aura effects.
Aerial Attacks
- Neutral aerial now hits twice instead of once, no matter which side Lucario hits the opponent from. Additionally, Lucario is able to drag opponents with the attack, making it more likely for follow ups.
- Neutral aerial has reduced landing lag.
- Neutral aerial has slightly more startup.
- Forward aerial has reduced landing lag.
- Back aerial deals less damage and knockback to opponents, but it has less startup lag and has a bigger hitbox.
- Up aerial has an altered animation, with Lucario backflipping following the initial kick.
- Up aerial has decreased landing lag.
- Down aerial has bigger hitboxes.
- Down aerial stalls a bit less in the air.
- Down aerial has slightly more landing lag.
Special Moves
- Aura Sphere:
- Aura Sphere has less endlag and can now be jump-canceled, even in the air. Additionally, it can now be canceled into any grounded option while charging.
- Aura Sphere travels slower.
- Aura Sphere is now visually closer to how it appears in the anime and games. It has an "energy absorption" visual effect when charging and no longer emits a trail of smoke when launched.
- Force Palm:
- Force Palm has increased grab range at point blank range, making it more likely to grab opponents with the attack.
- Force Palm's flame now much more closely matches the hitbox when compared to the previous installment.
- Extreme Speed:
- Extreme Speed has less ending lag and landing lag.
- Extreme Speed now has a hitbox upon directly crashing into the ground or a wall, improving Lucario's safety while recovering.
- Double Team:
- Double Team's counterattack activates faster, making the attack harder to avoid.
- Double Team has less ending lag on an unsuccessful counter.
- Double Team has less active frames.
- Aura Storm:
- Lucario's Final Smash has been reverted to Aura Storm, but it now transforms into Mega Lucario.
Role in World of Light
Lucario was among the fighters summoned to the cliffside to fight against the army of Master Hands.
Lucario was present when Galeem unleashed its beams of light. Lucario dodged a beam of light using Double Team, but another beam of light hit it a moment later, vaporizing it and transforming it into a spirit along with the rest of the fighters, excluding Kirby.

Trivia
- Lucario and Charizard are the only characters to have had their Final Smash change between games only to have it revert back to the previous Final Smash. In Lucario's case, it had Aura Storm in Brawl, changed to Mega Lucario in Smash 4, and then reverted back to Aura Storm in Ultimate.
