It seems to be a widespread theory, but I'll leave it up to you guys to decide.

Doesn't seem widespread yet, somewhat disproven (but kind of on an ESRB leak scale), but here it is just in case: http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/320037569/super-smash-bros-for-wii-u-leaks <small>---Preceding unsigned comment added by <font color="red">SANTY</font> <font color="green">CLAWS</font>! Not to mention, due to the scale of Xenoblade Chronicles X, a stage would be extremely easy to fake, just take a snapshot, photoshop the characters out of it, and bingo, "LEAK". Not to mention that the image for Midgar was taken from a previous screenshot shown along with Cloud's reveal. Wolf was also probably made based off of a fanmade image using his Brawl model, but was heavily photoshopped to look like his appearance in SFZ. And finally the shading on the lines on the CSS are thinner compared to how they previously were. With all this in mind, it's pretty much fake, although the amount of detail is impressive, these things are easy to fake if enough time is taken. Stay away from leaks kids. == Cleaning out the page ==
Okay, I'm about to get started on cleaning this page out to be only notable rumors, so I'm going to ask for the community's opinions on the rumors I'm unsure about:
Lucas replacing Ness: Given that this was officially confirmed, do we really need it listed here?
Radio interview: Quick google search gives no results except SmashWiki- keeping in mind that this is old and Google might have just bumped out all of the results, can someone who was around the fandom during Brawl confirm whether or not this was widespread?
Clone removal: Kind of a combination of the two above. Also, removal of clones was assumed a lot during Smash 4's production too, and most people will probably expect it in Sma5h. Everyone seems to assume they're being removed no matter what, so I don't know how notable this really is.
Third third-party: Not actually planning on removing the section itself, but can it be shortened and the subsections removed and replaced with a single sentence reading "Mega Man, Geno, Leon S. Kennedy, and a second Sonic the Hedgehog character were all brought up as possibilities", maybe with a couple extra notes on the ones that had high amounts of evidence backing them up like Leon?
Namco worker: I've heard about all of the SSB4 rumors except this one (and Lucina, see below for it though), so I'm a little doubtful on it. Was it really widespread?
Lucina rumor: I know that it's been covered this one wasn't widespread and is only being kept because it showed how high-tech rumors can be, but given that Omni's Rayman was more widespread and covers the same thing, can we remove it now?
Please respond ASAP so I can get this cleanup started! <small>---Preceding unsigned comment added by <font color="red">SANTY</font> <font color="green">CLAWS</font>! Or maybe DatNuttyKid.</small> 19:56, 23 December 2015 (EST)
:Personally, I don't think we should have this page at all. It's more trouble than it's worth, but since I know I won't be convincing anyone: I would say that Lucas replacing Ness, clone removal, and Lucina rumor should go. I don't know anything about a the radio interview one. Namco should stay though. <span style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:12pt"><span style="color:#083">Serpent</span> <span style="color:#ed0;">King</span></span> 20:04, 23 December 2015 (EST)

:::IMO we should keep it, but trim it to only the ones that really received major coverage (e.g. Artsy Omni's Rayman). A lot of this page is extraneous. The rumor of Lucas replacing Ness was only confirmed for Melee AFAIK and is still well-known even today. The others should go IMO. :It's kind of hard for Lucas to replace Ness when they're both in the other 2 games though (the rumor, as I recall, did not originate until Melee, so SSB is not relevant here). <span style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:12pt"><span style="color:#083">Serpent</span> <span style="color:#ed0;">King</span></span> 22:32, 23 December 2015 (EST)

:::Right now it's only listed as a Melee rumor with a small mention of how some people overreacted to the lack of Ness confirmation during Brawl. I'm not sure that type of overreaction makes it worth keeping- it's kind of like the "no more clones" thing. <small>---Preceding unsigned comment added by <font color="red">SANTY</font> <font color="green">CLAWS</font>! If no one else has anything to say, I'll be removing these rumors (except maybe the radio interview and Namco) sometime later today. <small>---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe DatNuttyKid.</small> 13:19, 4 January 2016 (EST)
:I wouldn't be so hasty in removing them. The majority of rumors in question were all pretty widespread back in the day. Before Brawl's release, I do particularly remember lots of people claiming that Sakurai was cutting all the clones from the roster (They even referenced this in the old Flash series Smash Kingdom), and I remember hearing about the radio interview back in the day. Personally, what I think is best for the page would be to condense all the "third third-party" sections into one section with sub-points, and remove the Lucina rumor. The Lucina rumor wasn't widespread at all, and Smash Wiki was the only place I ever saw it covered. <span style="font-family:AR JULIAN; font-size:12pt"><span style="color:blue">Chuck</span><span style="color:blue">Norris</span></span> 14:23, 4 January 2016 (EST)
::My biggest problem with the removal of clones is that it doesn't have anything to back it up like most of the other rumors - it isn't pictures or interviews or anything, it's just false assumptions. It doesn't really fit it, and people will always claim that clones will be removed (if the fact that it happened again for Smash 4 is enough evidence). <small>---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. More rumored stuff
Not especially convinced any of this is real or even worth noting in this article, but there's a few other supposed leaks floating around right now that I thought I'd get links to just in case: Great Bay for 3DS, Dr. Mario stage for Wii U. Miles (talk) 08:58, 29 July 2015 (EDT)
- Doesn't seem quite notable enough. We'll see how long these rumors stick around and how big they get, then maybe they can go on this page. Nyargleblargle (Talk) 09:18, 29 July 2015 (EDT)

- I was literally about to put this up here.
- That being said, I was looking at the Dr. Mario images, and apparently there's Alfonzo in one of them? So yea, that one's out the window. ...Minor hopes for Great Bay, though. Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 10:23, 29 July 2015 (EDT)

Shovel Knight?
Continuing this discussion, one of my friends recently shared this link on Facebook. Thoughts? Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 17:00, 26 August 2015 (EDT)
- Now, before you ask, yes, I have contacted YCG about this. We just have to wait for what they say about this. Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 17:03, 26 August 2015 (EDT)
- I think the best thing to do at the moment is wait for any potential news out of the "Nindie" event at PAX in the next few days. Miles (talk) 17:12, 26 August 2015 (EDT)

- Penny Arcade eXpo, a gaming convention. Google it, it's not really about Penny Arcade, but it's hosted by the creators of it. As for my 2-cents on the leak, I'm not sure about its legitimacy. Yeah, Unseen64 isn't ALWAYS reliable, but he does get a lot of legitimate information. Such as all of that Mario Spikers info. Also, all we're gonna get from a tweet is the developers deflecting the rumors, even if they're true. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Laikue (talk | contribs) 17:54, 26 August 2015 (EDT)

- But they've stated, on several occasions, it's not happening, meaning it's fake. Nintenzilla (talk) 12:23, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- The reason I left the phrasing on the article open-ended is because SSB4's DLC development is open-ended. Should Shovel Knight appear in SSB4 DLC in any capacity, it will need to be updated. This is different from claims that are either disproven on a game's release, as well as different from claims which are admitted to be fakes (Artsy Omni's Rayman, for example). Okay, I know this isn't the place, but I just have to get this out there.
- RANT START! Okay, sorry to say this, but Shovel Knight appearing in Smash is about as sensible as Cars getting a third movie. He's an indie character that's had one game that's been out for a year and hasn't even been released in Japan yet or gotten a sequel (If you don't count Plauge of Shadows). Him appearing in Smash as DLC would be a dangerous move on Nintendo, HAL, SORA, and Bandai-Namco's parts, it's not a good decision critically, or financially, there are so many better options, Professor Layton, Shantae, hell, I'd even say Arle Nadja from Puyo Puyo would be a better option despite her only appearing outside of Japan once because she's at least an icon. END RANT!*
Sorry about that, but I've got to say, they've admitted this to be a fake several times, then again, they have been also hinting at him being in the game, along with hints of other content I believe, but still, that's not saying much I don't think considering what I said above. In the end they've stated that it's more fake then it is real. Nintenzilla (talk) 12:47, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- If they've stated, "That'd be great, but unfortunately it's just an error" Then why should we still consider it a possibility? Nintenzilla (talk) 12:53, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- It really doesn't make sense if you think about it. Nintenzilla (talk) 13:04, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- Layton isn't an indie character. He's third party.
- The creators of SK probably wouldn't want his status in Smash (if anything) to be leaked.
- Pretty sure Cars is getting a third movie.
- Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 13:13, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- I was referring to guest characters in general, as Sakurai stated, it's a special case, and all of the guest characters are special in their own ways, and yes, I know that Cars is getting a third movie, I just couldn't find a better comparison. So if he was leaked, why didn't they just say nothing, at the very least with the Shantae thing, he didn't flat out say that picture had nothing to do with Shantae, here, they flat-out say SK isn't in the game. So if he is, they're currently hiding with lies, which is causing alot of tension. If they really know SK is in the game along with all the other content they've been teasing, then why would they lie? (Also what would Butt-Butt have that would make him a worthy guest character along with Sonic, Ryu, Mega Man and Pac-Man?) Nintenzilla (talk) 13:50, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- It really doesn't make sense if you think about it. Nintenzilla (talk) 13:04, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
- I'm sorry, but I just feel the need to point out how utterly awful of a comparison that is. Cars 2 made TRIPLE of it's $200 Million budget. If that alone doesn't make Cars 3 a financial treat, I don't know what will. It also made over Ten Billion Dollars in merchandise BEFORE Cars 2 was even released. It was also reported that Cars 2 was a massive financial success, all-in-all, so I think it's safe to say that a third Cars movie would be a non-risk. Pretty sure this kind of discussion is more suited to the forum (which even has a thread about Shovel Knight) than to a talk page. -Menshay (talk) 16:39, 26 October 2015 (EDT)
This conversation has long ceased to be on topic. Please try to stay focused on the point of a talk page: discussing the article at hand. We have a section relating to the Shovel Knight rumor because of its high amount of press time and the fact that there being a Shovel Knight amiibo was true. Barring any further developments related to this rumor, I don't see much reason to keep discussing it here. Use the forums where appropriate. Miles (talk) 13:08, 27 October 2015 (EDT)

- My only complaint is Bomberman. Personal preference, but still.
- I actually don't know, I was just scrolling through Facebook and it popped up on me.
- Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 23:13, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
- Eh, Bomberman isn't my top choice overall (Inkling, Paper Mario, or Bandanna Dee are higher than him), but out of the third-party options, he's one of the best choices (maybe beaten by Rayman.)
- Quick Google search turns up three results. So probably not.
- ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 23:15, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
- Personally, I think there's a different third party character that passes both Rayman and Bomberman; he's only been on Nintendo consoles (excluding one mobile spinoff that didn't actually feature Layton himself), all his fans love him and his games, he's considered Level-5's most successful franchise, and frankly, he'd fit right in with the rest of the quirky and fun roster. Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 23:18, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
My two cents, considering how non-widespread it is, let's not add it. If K. Rool or Bomberman gets revealed, then it may be worth mentioning. (Wolf has been in almost every "leak" though, so I wouldn't put it on the page if only he gets announced) Laikue (talk | contribs) 03:15, 3 October 2015 (EDT)
- I would say it needs mentioned if all three get added or it suddenly goes viral. All three are relatively highly requested (particularly Wolf and Rool) and are logical choices for someone making a fake leak, so even if one got it we should ride it out to see who else is added. ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! However both Roger and Stealth are former NOA employees, however the other leaker remains a complete mystery. Stealth has managed to leak the Splatoon event in NYC and even know details about the April 1st Nintendo Direct, and Roger has been informed about future events such as Nintendo's E3 Digital Event, so it could very well turn out true. Is Shantae coming to Smash!?
First off, I'm having trouble finding the link for this, so if anyone has it, it would be great if you could post it. About a week ago a picture was posted onto Twitter by Wayforward's director of him with Sakurai, while at first it was thought to be a con, it was later found out through tracking that the photo was taken in California at Wayforward headquarters, and Sakurai visited them the same day. He did the same thing with Monolith Soft and Platnum Games to get the rights to their characters, so it's possible that he went to Wayforward to get the rights to Shantae. Thoughts on this matter? - If you look closely at Inkling on the credits roll, you'll see that the jumping animation is the exact same as the Mii Gunner. However this wouldn't be the first time a character would share animations with another character, Lucas shares various animations with Ness, and Roy shares various animations with Robin. Still I say fake, plus the font on the Inkling's splash screen is off. Nintenzilla (talk) 16:28, 13 October 2015 (EDT)

- It is a rumor, sure, but the picture is a definite fake. Always check the fonts first; it's the most obvious thing fake leakers usually get wrong. And here it doesn't match; most visibly, the "g" in "Inkling" doesn't match the lowercase "g" of any other "Character joins the battle" splash screen (which all have used the same font so far). --131.107.147.30 14:40, 16 October 2015 (EDT)

- Appearently the person got the "six slots" correct, and not only that, Shovel Knight has a completely new render, as Google image search weilds no results, I looked all over it, and it's brand spanking new. He also states that Bomberman, Maxwell from Scribblenauts, Shantae, King K. Rool, and Waddle Dee are all being considered, so assuming that there's no problems (And if this is real) this is what I assume the final roster would be. Now that's not to assume we could, at the very least, get two more characters to balance things out. If SK really is finished, then they're probably holding him back to focus on other content and balancing first, or are waiting to release him with another character. Take this all however with a grain of salt. Nintenzilla (talk) 11:58, 27 October 2015 (EDT)

Also, Maxwell and Bomberman have basically no votes according to most polls. They aren't getting in "due to their high votes on the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot". ---Preceding unsigned comment added by BOO! Or maybe Nutta. 12:01, 27 October 2015 (EDT)

Smashified was based on the Wii U version's css, not the 3DS version. Also, Maxwell seems like such a Sakurai pick, Bomberman is pretty popular, but tends to be overshadowed by Snake. Also, this is a new render and he did guess that there'd be up to six characters, just like what that Reddit user found. Still, I'm very salty about this, I'm not going to jump the gun yet. We have a few weeks until the whole rumor is completely dead. I'd say until about the 15th of November. Nintenzilla (talk) 12:09, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- Oh, and assuming this is real, then it's possible that the quality is resulted from a glitch involving transfering footage, just going to put that out there. Nintenzilla (talk) 12:13, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- Is it real, I can't say I know for sure, we should just wait until official confirmation. Nintenzilla (talk) 12:19, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- But I'll side with,"It's fake" until something happens. Nintenzilla (talk) 12:22, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- I have doubts regarding Maxwell and Bomberman.
- Seeing how close the camera is to the screen, I can understand why it'd be low quality; that, and low quality cameras exist.
- Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 12:24, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- Tbh, I don't see Maxwell as that strange of a choice, his games have sold really well, he has endless moveset potential involving his magical book, and his games have all been (Not counting PC and moble ports) Nintendo exclusive. So he doesn't seem that odd imo. Nintenzilla (talk) 12:34, 27 October 2015 (EDT)

- To me this seems easier to fake than the Rayman leak, which was actually slightly higher quality than this. At least that one was believable. Look at Shovel Knight's pose and see that it resembles his amiibo pose. This isn't even close to believable. 75.141.57.33 11:27, 28 October 2015 (EDT)

Getting back on topic...
According to this video's description:

- Not only is the leak of negligible credibility (panning a camera over a static CSS?), there's been zero coverage. Not notable. Miles (talk) 14:21, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- Then again, the render has never been seen before, I tried looking for it on Google Image search and got no matches. Nintenzilla (talk) 14:24, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- After Artsy Omni's Rayman, that's not really credible proof of anything. Miles (talk) 14:27, 27 October 2015 (EDT)
- If we at least saw a behind the scenes video of it, then that'd be good. Not to mention, the person would've only had 14 days to make the render as the upload date suggests. Omni did it in 3 weeks. Also, this was made before it was found out that there was room for six characters. Nintenzilla (talk) 14:32, 27 October 2015 (EDT)

The Shovel Knight Rumor's Legitimacy
YGC has stated several times it's not going to happen on various occasions, and people continue to believe it's still happening, after doing extensive research I found that they said that the listing for the Amiibo on the Spanish site was an error, and what I believe they were referring to was the fact that the Amiibo was listed as a "Smash" Amiibo, rather then in his own series. And even more damaging to the rumor's credibility is that they wouldn't be aloud to hint, speak, or do even refer to it if it was happening due to an NDA being involved. All of this evidence heavily suggests that the rumor is indeed false. Nintenzilla (talk) 09:16, 11 November 2015 (EST)
- YGC said the amiibo was a fake. And it wasn't. Aidan, the Wandering Space Warrior 09:25, 11 November 2015 (EST)

- So why lie? Nintenzilla (talk) 09:25, 11 November 2015 (EST)
- I recognise your name from the leak thread on Smashboards, you should know by now that whatever YCG states is completely irrelevant to the rumor's legitimacy. Omega Tyrant 09:29, 11 November 2015 (EST)

- And NDAs are the exact reason why anything YCG says is unsubstantial. Omega Tyrant 09:37, 11 November 2015 (EST)
- Remember though, Xander Moubis wasn't aloud to say anything at all about him being the announcer, while YGC has said numerous things. Even during the fake Rayman leak he didn't say a thing. Nintenzilla (talk) 10:16, 11 November 2015 (EST)

- Wolf's picture does have a shadow, but it's barely noticable.
- The render for Paper Mario (the stage) has terrible lighting, and I don't think it's legitimate.
- In the image with Wolf, Paper Mario, and Mega Man, there's a shadow behind all three images, despite there being no "Ready to Fight!" option (something not seen in the actual game).

Cleaning out the page
---Preceding unsigned comment added by SANTY CLAWS! Or maybe DatNuttyKid. 19:56, 23 December 2015 (EST)
- Personally, I don't think we should have this page at all. It's more trouble than it's worth, but since I know I won't be convincing anyone: I would say that Lucas replacing Ness, clone removal, and Lucina rumor should go. I don't know anything about a the radio interview one. Namco should stay though. Serpent King 20:04, 23 December 2015 (EST)

The rumor of Lucas replacing Ness was only confirmed for Melee AFAIK and is still well-known even today. The others should go IMO. Nyargleblargle (Contribs) 22:28, 23 December 2015 (EST)
- It's kind of hard for Lucas to replace Ness when they're both in the other 2 games though (the rumor, as I recall, did not originate until Melee, so SSB is not relevant here). Serpent King 22:32, 23 December 2015 (EST)

- I wouldn't be so hasty in removing them. ChuckNorris 14:23, 4 January 2016 (EST)
- My biggest problem with the removal of clones is that it doesn't have anything to back it up like most of the other rumors - it isn't pictures or interviews or anything, it's just false assumptions. It doesn't really fit it, and people will always claim that clones will be removed (if the fact that it happened again for Smash 4 is enough evidence). ---Preceding unsigned comment added by you.
