Delfino Maza 2023 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major held in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, from August 18th-20th, 2023. The winner qualified for a free, all-expenses paid trip to Port Priority 8.
Tournament summary[edit]
The tournament initially reached supermajor status and would have been Mexico's second supermajor of the year. However, following ApolloKage, MuteAce, Shuton, and Sonix's dropouts, the tournament was downgraded to just a major.
The tournament mostly went normally for most of top 32. The most notable event was #11 seed ShinyMark's run, where he defeated #6 seed Gackt 3-1 and #3 seed Glutonny 3-2 (upset factor 4) to make it into top 8 Winner's side. In addition, #7 seed Skyjay upset #2 seed MkLeo 3-0 (upset factor 4), the first time Skyjay's Incineroar has defeated MkLeo's Joker and Pyra/Mythra in an offline event. Finally, #1 seed Sparg0 had a close encounter with #8 seed Sisqui, and Sparg0 stole the final game to just barely win the set 3-2. Overall, all the top 8 seeds made top 8 aside from #4 seed Maister, who lost to #5 seed KEN and Gackt to place 9th.
In top 8, Glutonny extended his win streak on MkLeo by 3-0ing him for 7th. He then fought a grueling 5-game set against KEN where he made a 3-stock high-percent comeback on game 4 before winning the set 3-2. He followed it up with the quickest set in top 8 and defeated Skyjay 3-1 before winning the runback against ShinyMark 3-0 to make it into Grand Finals. Sparg0 ultimately won 3-2 despite Glutonny coming close to reset the bracket, winning his second Mexican major.
