Like many others enemies, Shaydas are infamous for their extremely powerful and swift attacks, which are often unpredictable. They always attack while levitating, and can move around to chase the player; their moves have also a decent to wide hitbox and range, which makes them even more dangerous.

*A slow, extremely powerful blade cross. This move is their slowest and most predictable attack, but has a large hitbox and wide range. It can deal up to a massive 44% on Intense and is an invariable OHKO on Normal difficulty and above.

*A double slash. It seems to be their most frequently used attack, and has a very swift execution and decent range. It could be used more times in a row in some situations. It can deal up to 28% on Intense, and is a guaranteed OHKO on Very Hard to Intense difficulty.
*A double slash. One of their most frequently used attack, and has a very swift execution and decent range. It could be used more times in a row in some situations or followed up by a blade cross. It can deal up to 28% on Intense.
*A triple slash. It is their least frequently used attack, and is only used at low health levels (25% HP or less). It is fast, unpredictable and has a good range; also it could be repeatedly used in some situations. Damage can reach 36%, and it will surely OHKO on Hard difficulty and above.
*A twirl. It is their least frequently used attack and is mainly used when they attempt to leave—typically when the player is too far from them. It is very slow and only deals damage at the end of the twirl and deals slightly less damage than a double slash. If it hits and the player is in front of them, it will quickly follow up with a double slash, albeit without its glowing trails.
*A very dangerous combo attack, composed by nine consecutive double slashes and a final blowing slash. This move is swift and likely to trap the player, inflicting enormous damage (over 250%) before the last slash ensures the KO. The blowing slash alone is very powerful, KOing around 30% on Intense, while most hits chaining will always result in an OHKO, even on Easy difficulty, due to the ludicrous damage output suffered by the player.

The following list shows the damage inflicted by the combo attack for every difficulty, respectively for each hit and combined (assuming all hits chain, including the final blow):
*Easy: 10% per hit, 106% combined.
*Normal: 14% per hit, 149% combined.
*Hard: 18% per hit, 190% combined.
*Very Hard: 22% per hit, 230% combined.
*Intense: 26% per hit, 269% combined.

As shown by the list, this attack is one of the most damaging moves ever, being able to deal over 250% if most or all hits chain on Intense.

While Shaydas are barely scratched by most attacks, their center (a red sphere or jewel) functions as a weak point: attacks deal double damage to it under most scenarios. Some moves have a 1,6 multiplier here instead. Attacking this weak point of the best (if not only strategy) to defeat them, avoiding great damage or a KO from their swift and powerful moves.
While Shaydas are barely scratched by most attacks, attacks deal double damage to them while they are in a vulnerable stance, except for Grass, Slash (both deal 1.6× damage), and Indirect attacks (which deal base damage). Attacking them at this time is the best way to defeat them. Although their trophy description states that the core is their weak point, hitting any part of them while they are open while preparing to attack, indicated by their core growing larger, will deal high damage, while they will resist damage heavily when not vulnerable, regardless of where they are hit.

A Shaydas (ジェイダス, Jaydus) is an enemy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Subspace Emissary mode, first appearing in the Lake Shore level.

Appearance[edit]

They are large black amalgamations of Shadow Bugs with two jointed heads and long, two-ended blades on either arm. They lack any facial feature, except for very small bright eyes - although their appearance roughly resembles slim conjoined twins.

Their body has a peculiar trait as well: a sort of "core" at its center, a bright red, glowing orb. This core is described as their weak point.

Shaydas always levitate and never touch the ground.

In the Subspace Emissary[edit]

Shaydas levitate and can move across the ground quickly in order to chase the player. Their moves have wide hitboxes.

Shaydas have four main methods of attacking:

 • A slow, extremely powerful blade cross. This move is their slowest and most predictable attack, but has a large hitbox and wide range. It can deal up to 44% on Intense.
 • A double slash. One of their most frequently used attack, and has a very swift execution and decent range. It could be used more times in a row in some situations or followed up by a blade cross. It can deal up to 28% on Intense.
 • A twirl.

Shaydas usually appear in caves, although they can rarely be fought on open stages.
