Below the Belt (known as Dirty Boxing in PAL versions of the game) is a single-player event match in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. In it, the player controls Mario, and must protect Little Mac, who is at a level of damage depending on the difficulty, from a giant Little Mac in a stock match. The ally Little Mac constantly crouches and does not attack.
Progression[edit]
This event is unlocked by clearing That Elusive 9. Completing the event does not unlock any further paths. Once both the event is completed and Falco is unlocked, the left path is unlocked.
- Left path: Awards the Yellow Pikmin trophy. Leads to All-Star Battle: Melee.
Completing the event on hard difficulty within 60 seconds awards 2000G.
Trivia[edit]
- This event is similar to Melee's Event 19: Peach's Peril and Brawl's Event 31: The Ultimate Bodyguard where the player must defend a helpless ally.
- Mario's role of defending the damaged Little Mac is a reference to his cameo as the referee in Punch-Out!!.
- Mario also uses his Fire Mario costume, as a reference to his outfit in Punch-Out!!.
- This is the only solo event match where the player uses an alternate costume (in this case, Mario's Fire Mario color scheme).
- The name of the event in NTSC regions is a reference to the below the belt rule, a rule in standard boxing that does not allow either contender to hit the other "below the belt" (meaning the genital area, legs, and crotch).
