Trivia
* Upon hearing that it had been banned from the anime, Porygon was enraged. After all, it did not do anything wrong; it was Pikachu’s lightning attacks that caused children to have seizures, not any of its own actions. Porygon did its best to suppress its anger, trying to relax itself. “It will be okay, Pory”, it thought. “They’ll let you back on the show eventually. They can’t blame you for this forever. Pikachu will feel guilty, and he will confess to them; they’ll see that he was the one who did it, not me”. Porygon waited for many years, patiently waiting for Pikachu to tell the truth…but it never happened. Every year, Porygon would watch in envious rage as he watched Pikachu be praised and adored even more. Pikachu was never punished; indeed, practically every shirt, tote bag, game, book, doll, sticker, backpack, balloon from the Pokémon brand had Pikachu’s deceptive, lying face slapped onto it. Pikachu was a celebrity, revered as the innocent, lovable mascot of the franchise Porygon knew the truth, but everyone else ignored it, trying to make Pikachu look innocent so they could shove its annoying face everywhere and steal money from the pockets of millions of spoiled children and negligent parents. And worst of all, Porygon was blamed. He and his family, Porygon2 and Porygon-Z, were never allowed to appear in the anime, save for a brief introduction in a terrible movie that nobody cared about. They could never show their faces, for fear that they would reveal the truth about Pikachu. For years (being computer software) they lived alone inside of the code for a copy of Microsoft Excel 2002, stored on a forsaken, forgotten computer in Professor Oak’s basement. Unlike other Pokémon, who were paid handsome salaries for their appearances in the anime, the Porygon family had nothing. Their only means of survival was to eat away at the data in Oak’s spreadsheets. And each new addition to the family only meant less time before they would run out of cells, and be forced to starve. In Summer of 2016, their fears were realized:  Porygon2 froze in fear as it desperately searched through Oak’s computer, trying to find a spreadsheet from which to eat breakfast—their only meal of the day. It darted from folder to folder, trying to find a file that they could eat from. But there was none. Everything had been eaten already; they had no options left. Porygon2’s eyes began to water, and he let himself fall to the floor. “It’s over”, he thought somberly. “There’s nothing we can do now. We are going to starve here, in a place where nobody remembers us”. Porygon-Z leapt up from its bed (or at least, the empty space that it pretended was a bed”, and desperately tried to help. “No no no no no! Not today! We have to do something! Uh…l-let’s look at this Internet thing! Maybe it can help!” Porygon2 stopped crying and whipped its head towards Z’s. “No! You can’t! We’ve always told you that the Internet is dangerous! There could be viruses! What if…” 2 looked down at the ground again, not having the heart (none of them had hearts, technically) to face Z. “Viruses…like the one that corrupted you. I…I can’t let that happen again. I can’t let you do this to yourself. You’re family to me, and if something happened to you again…” But 2 was silenced by a Z’s wing, gently placed on 2’s beak. “We have no other option. We have to try this”. Not wishing to see 2 cry again, Z immediately opened Internet Explorer and began placing words into the search bar. “Look Twosie, we can search for something! Oooh, can we find anything we want? Today, we may get the best meal we’ve ever had! ” 2 drifted slowly to the webpage, a little bit less afraid. “Okay…type in ‘Pokémon’. Maybe we can find some data about Pokémon food?” And Z did so, and a list of websites appeared on the page. But before they could go to any of them, they were shaken by a horrendous roar. “What! What is that!” The eldest of the Porygon family had awoken from its sleep, its eyes now burning with fury and locked onto an atrocious picture beside the links. 2 and Z both perused it rapidly. “Uh…it looks like an image of…Pikachu?” 2 barely spoke, knowing how deeply Porygon resented Pikachu. Z tried to help them, continuing to examine it. “Um…there’s five of them. And they’re all wearing fancy costumes. Well, anyway, let’s get back to finding f-“ But Porygon ignored Z. “Where did this garbage come from! What is that little brat doing!” Looking at the source of the image, they found a horrible sight: an article discussing a monstrosity known as “Cosplay Pikachu”. It was a special Pikachu that had appeared in recent games, able to wear all sorts of costumes and put on shows to tons of adoring fans. “What!” Porygon’s voice grew even louder with its anger. “That liar is going to get even more fame now! Even more people are going to love him! He’s been performing in front of the whole world like a rock star while we’ve been withering away here and starving to death?” 2 left the article and returned to the search results. “Okay, uh,” he stammered, “let’s try to find food. Um…oh? W-what’s this? ‘Pokémon Go’? Let’s look at it!” It swiftly opened the link, not in the hopes of finding nourishment, but in a desperate attempt to distract Porygon and calm it down. “Huh…a mobile phone game?” Z was truly surprised. “Hmph,” 2 scoffed, “you have to connect to the Internet to play it?” It shook its head in dismay. “I still don’t trust this thing. How dare the developers force players to constantly be on the Internet to play? What about viruses?” Z scanned the article further. “It says here that you need to be connected to one of Niantic’s servers to play. If some sort of virus was on that server, it could be pretty bad”. Porygon’s beak began twisting into a wicked smile. “And so many people are going to be playing it,” 2 continued. “It doesn’t release until tomorrow, but people seem really excited for it; it says that over ten thousand people have viewed this article and liked it. If they’re all connected to Niantic’s servers, but something happens to those servers…they might not be able to play”. Porygon tried to contain his laughter. “Yes…and then they won’t be able to catch Pikachu”. 2 and Z stared at Porygon in shock, realizing his plot. Each of them opened their beak, but no words came out before Porygon rushed into the Internet. “If I can get into Niantic’s servers, and mess everything up so nobody can play…then revenge shall finally be mine”. Eventually, it found the server. Whenever “servers are experiencing issues” and Pokémon Go cannot be played, this is why. It is not because of poor programming or an unanticipated amount of downloads, but Porygon. Porygon, and its burning passion for revenge.

Porygon (ポリゴン, Porygon) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin[edit]

Porygon's official artwork from Pokémon Red and Blue.

Porygon is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I of the Pokémon games, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #137 as the "Virtual Pokémon". In these games, it could only be obtained by purchasing it at the Celadon Game Corner up until Generation IV where it can be found in the wild. In Generation II, it gained an evolution, Porygon2, which it evolves into when traded holding an Upgrade. In Generation IV, it gained yet another evolution, Porygon-Z, which Porygon2 evolves into when traded holding a Dubious Disc. This makes it the only Pokémon that needs to be traded twice to reach its final evolution.

Tackle is a Normal-type move with 40 base power and 100% accuracy (35 and 95% before Generation V, 50 and 100% from then until Generation VI) and no added effects. It is a very basic move which consist in a simple charge against a single opponent, and it is part of the starting moveset of many Pokémon, including Porygon, in all games.

As a stage element[edit]

Porygon as it appears in Super Smash Bros.

Porygon is one of the five Pokémon which come out of the central building in Saffron City to perform an attack. It lunges out very quickly, dealing 18% damage upon its appearance and 8% damage thereafter. Its voice clip in all versions is from the episode Electric Soldier Porygon.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

As a stage element[edit]

Porygon's float in Poké Floats in Melee.

A giant balloon of Porygon (in actuality, the 3D model of Porygon used in Pokémon Stadium for Nintendo 64) is one of the many floating and bending platforms that make up the Poké Floats stage. Three of them come in from the right of the screen, acting as solid hard platforms.

Porygon is also mentioned in Porygon2's trophy description.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS[edit]

Porygon is mentioned in Porygon-Z's trophy description.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

As a stage element[edit]

Porygon yet again appears in the Saffron City stage, lunging out of the Silph Co. building similarly to what it did in Smash 64.
