Coins are a type of currency used within Melee and Brawl for use in various features of the game. Their uses are varied; they can be used to attempt to gain trophies via the Lottery or Coin Launcher mode, or they can be used to Continue failed single-player games. In Brawl, the online component of the game also relies on coins. One aspect is that the player is charged 1 coin to choose a specific stage. Selecting Random, however, is free. Players can gamble their coins in the Spectator mode by placing a number of coins on another player or team to win a vs. match.
