In Subspace Emissary, certain levels with water such as The Lake include a hazard that bursts of of the water. These appear as spirals of vine that have thorns on them. Often they will destroy some of the terrain and will damage a player if they are touched. However, they are not enemies, and cannot be destroyed. Because of this, it is unknown whether they serve the Subspace Army or whether they are just a natural part of the area.
This hazard only appears in The Swamp and The Great Maze.
