Harassment controversy[edit]

In June 2023, Omuatsu and Umeki had a negative interaction at a Smash tournament, which resulted in members of Omuatsu's Discord harassing Umeki over issues such as Umeki's Daisy cosplay and depression while also sending Umeki death threats.[1] As Omuatsu did nothing to stop the harassment, Umeki DQ'd from a tournament he was to attend that weekend.[2] This disqualification was unexpected, leading many in the Japanese Smash community to discover the harassment campaign and causing backlash against Omuatsu; he was released from his first sponsor and voluntarily left his second.[3]

Ultimately, Omuatsu apologized to Umeki and then left the Smash scene. After about four months, Umeki and Omuatsu met in Hiroshima, going to a restaurant together and making amends, where Umeki forgave Omuatsu and invited him to attend Umebura SP 10.[4] Since then, Omuatsu has returned to competitive play through Smashmate and has attended a few offline events.
