The Rope Snake is Lucas' Grab attack. He can also use it as a Tether Recovery, similar to Samus's and Link's grabs (Grapple Beam and Clawshot, respectively).
It is also one of his taunts, in which he converses with the snake after it taps him on the shoulder.
In MOTHER 3, Lucas did not use a Rope Snake; the item actually belonged to Duster, who purchased it from the ghosts living in Oshoe castle.
When used as a tether recovery, it is slightly shorter than Ivysaur's Vine Whip.
