Evolution 2008, or simply EVO 2008, was the 7th edition of the Evolution Championship Series, a fighting game tournament held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada, which took place from August 8th to 10th, 2008 at the Tropicana Las Vegas.
It was the second time EVO featured a Smash game on the official lineup, with Super Smash Bros. Brawl replacing Super Smash Bros. Melee from 2007. EVO 2008 was criticized harshly by the competitive community for its ruleset which turned on items, including the Smash Ball, and many stages that were universally banned in competitive play. CPU won the tournament, despite not having any prior experience in competitive Smash, after defeating Ken in Grand Finals in a victory that was widely attributed to the ruleset.
Official Game Lineup[edit]
- Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2
- Capcom vs. SNK 2
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo
- Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
