(Adding according to Alex's passing edit comment on the Beehive page. As for the second point, I am unsure if this is 100% the reason why balloon knockback doesn't really work on this move, please update it if you know the reason.) |

Darkness Illusion (ダークネスイリュージョン, Darkness Illusion) is Meta Knight's Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It replaces Galaxia Darkness from Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. 4.
Overview
When activated, Meta Knight gains an extra pair of wings, lifts his sword, says "Know my power!" (思い知れ, You shall realize.) or "Behold..." (見るがいい!, Behold!), and summons a lightning bolt that creates a cross-shaped burst. If he traps anyone, he'll then proceed to slice the opponent at multiple angles, finishing with a final hit that launches the opponent sideways with a different camera angle if the attack was gained from a Smash Ball rather than through a meter; if the Final Smash is gained via a meter, the final hit will slow down opponents not caught in the attack.
Instructional quotes
Move List | Meta Knight raises his sword, emitting a blast of electricity. If he hits an opponent, he multiplies himself to attack and launch the opponent. If no one is hit, the move won't do anything. |
Origin
This move resembles Upper Calibur, a move Meta Knight uses in Kirby Star Allies and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, with the addition of the extra wings and a flash of lightning as opposed to an ascending slash. The pose Meta Knight takes when summoning his sword is a pose commonly associated with opponents of his type, appearing as either a mere up stab or as a summoning act. The cross-lightning both resembles Meta Knight infused with the Zap element in Kirby Star Allies and the animation for Mach Tornado in Kirby Super Star Ultra. The pose he takes after landing the final strike resembles his Kirby Air Ride render.
Darkness Illusion also bears a resemblance to Morrigan Aensland's own attack of the same name from the Capcom-produced fighting game Darkstalkers. Both involve launching the opponent upwards, assaulting them from multiple angles, then sending them away in a final blow.

Trivia
- The final slash of Darkness Illusion features an incredibly high hitlag multiplier of 100, presumably to give more visual impact to the blow.
- In addition, victims sent flying by the final blow are not affected by the quick "balloon knockback" deceleration that is typical of most attacks, instead retaining traditional knockback physics. This is presumably due to the hitlag modifier mentioned above.
