Zackray (ザクレイ) is a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player from Tokyo, Japan. He has mained a variety of characters through his career, including Wolf, Wario, Joker, and R.O.B., and he currently mains Pit and Dark Pit. He was considered to be one of the best Joker players in the world along with MkLeo, one of the two best R.O.B. players in the world alongside Zomba, and the Wolf player in the early metagame when he mained the characters. With his success in his home country and at the international level including 1st place finishes at EGS Cup 2, Umebura SP 7, Sumabato SP 8, Sumabato SP 9, EGS Cup 3, Sumabato SP 12, Maesuma TOP 2, Eastern Powerhouse Invitational FINAL and most notably The Big House 9, he was widely considered to be the best player in Japan from 2019-2020. He is currently ranked 1st on the Experimental Smash Player Rankings, 12th on the OrionRank 2022 Japan, 28th on the OrionRank 2022, and 38th on the UltRank 2022; he was also ranked 1st on the discontinued Japan Player Rankings.
Zackray is known for his mastery of many characters and his ability to quickly pick up new characters. He mained Wolf before switching to (mostly) co-maining R.O.B. and Joker, and has already played high-level tournaments with more than 20 different characters. This gives him many options when it comes to counterpicking characters; an example of this can be seen when he switched from Sonic to Joker to pull off a reverse 3-0 against Maister at The Big House 9. He notably won The Big House 9 using seven different characters and won at least a game with five of them.
In SSB4, Zackray was a Corrin and Bayonetta main who also used Marth as a secondary. He was considered the best Corrin player in Japan and has taken sets off of top players such as KEN, Abadango, Kirihara, Tsu, Nietono, Raito, HIKARU, and Atelier. He is currently ranked 8th on the JAPAN Power Rankings and 88th on the Panda Global Rankings 100.
On December 6th, 2018, Zackray announced his new sponsor GameWith.[1] GameWith merged with DetonatioN Gaming to form DetonatioN FocusMe on December 22nd, 2022, signing Zackray in the process.[2]
Playstyle
Zackray is able to play unconventionally with normally considered passive characters, such as R.O.B., aggressively searching through weaknesses in an opponent’s mindset, yet able to maintain a calm and calculating stance throughout sets. In neutral situations, he patiently waits for the opponent to move and counterattack at the right opportunity. Zackray is also known for picking up many characters for his adaptation to certain matchups as well as downloading data on his opponent's playstyles. He did this to Maister by going Sonic for the first 2 games of the set in The Big House 9, and by reverse 3-0ing him by going back to Joker.
