ThundeRzReiGN is a Project M Donkey Kong player with a strong Captain Falcon secondary from Oakland, California. Due to his performances such as 1st at Low Tier City 4, Olympus, Rewired 2016, The Bigger Balc, SuperNova 2, and Fair and Balanced, he was widely considered to be the best Project M player in the world throughout 2016 and 2017. The sole developer of Donkey Kong's metagame, he has catalyzed the development of a character many considered among the worst in the 3.6 patch. He is also a contender for the best Captain Falcon player.
ThundeRz also plays Donkey Kong in Melee and placed 5th and 3rd, in singles and doubles respectively, at Norcal's fourth iteration of the Arcadian.
On January 7th, 2018, he announced his partial retirement from Project M noting his frustration with constantly being called out for losing with secondary characters as a large factor.[1] Initially, he continued to participate in locals but was no longer willing to go to major tournaments or be qualified for any future PMRank. However, despite his initial claims of not entering future majors, he ended up attending and winning The Even Bigger Balc, the largest Project M tournament of all time. He announced at the beginning of 2019 that he would return to entering majors regularly for the rest of the year.
ThundeRzReiGN is currently ranked 1st on the NorCal Project M Power Rankings and 2nd on PMRank 2019.
Playing style
ThundeRzReiGN's playstyle is centered around his extensive punish game, alongside his patient, bait-and-punish style neutral. Augmented by his ability to switch between aggressive and defensive play, it enables him to maneuver around opponents and bait out poor approaches or over-extensions. His accurate usage of Donkey Kong's combo starters (most notably his cargo up-throw) and follow-ups enable him to zero-to-death opponents for making a mistake. He couples this ability with an unmatched mastery and understanding of Donkey Kong's capabilities, allowing him to determine the most optimal option to use at any given time.
