The 2016 SSBMRank lists the world's top 100 Super Smash Bros. Melee smashers, as compiled by Melee It On Me. They were announced in a series of Red Bull eSports articles that were published from December 26th, 2016 to January 12th, 2017.
Methodology
Over 50 people, such as professional smashers, tournament organizers, community leaders and volunteers, were chosen to be panelists for this edition of SSBMRank. The panelists were asked to rate players based on the following criterion:
Given the quality and quantity of work in 2016 (from GENESIS 3 to UGC Smash Open), if everyone entered 100 tournaments, who on average would place the best?
They voted on a 1-10 scale with the best player receiving a "10" and the worst player receiving a "1". Ballots that were not scaled properly were rescaled using an algorithm. The two lowest and two highest ratings before taking the average were removed in order to reduce the variance.

Trivia
- 2016 SSBMRank is the first SSBMRank since its inception in 2013 to not include PPMD, who is considered one of the Five Gods of Melee. This is due to PPMD's low attendance that year due to health issues.
- 2016 SSBMRank is the first SSBMRank where that year's EVO champion (in this case, Hungrybox) wasn't ranked 1st.
