Because there are now other controlers besides the Gamecube controler (Wiimote, Classic, ect.,) and that you can also change the configuration of your button functions, I think its no longer appropriate to use the term up-b on an official Wiki such as this. - Orochijes 23:29, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

"Best recovery by far in Smash 64"
Koro, please stop adding this biased statement into the article. I know you mean good faith, and you are a professional, but this is an encyclopedia. Besides, Jiggly has an infinite recovery and DK has a much longer horizontal recovery. Even Ness' goes farther and does more damage. :Now I haven't played the first SSB that much, but from what I read, Pikachu's recovery has always been considered the best recovery in the game. I don't know where you get Ness's recovery being better, but Pikachu is better by far in Melee and in Brawl. Also, Ness's recovery is often considered the second worst recovery in the original SSB. That is one reason why he took such a massive dive on the tier list. As for DK, Pikachu's is certainly better in SSBM and SSBB. I am sure it was better in SSB as well. As for Jigglypuff, her recovery is not infinite though it is better in SSBM and SSBB than Pikachu's. But from what I read about the original SSB, Jigglypuff's jumps gain significantly less height than the future games. Its last jump didn't gain any height at all. I know Koro is very knowledgeable about the first SSB and there is nothing wrong with putting a piece of information in an article that is widely agreed upon and is back up by favorable statistics. ::In the first SSB, DK's Up special goes a VERY long horizontal distance. Ness' goes farther, but I didn't say it was easier. Jiggly's is infinite, see this. 98.111.95.78 01:12, May 3, 2010 (UTC)
:::DK's recovery may be long horizontally, but gains very little vertical distance. Jigglypuff's may be infinite horizontally, but not vertically. Ness's may be far, but is too unreliable to be good. Pikachu's on other the hand, has no flaw at all. Pikachu's is a great recovery in any situation, it also has invincibility frames and is very difficult to edgeguard. With these factors in mind, that is why Pikachu's recovery was considered the best in the original SSB. With increase jumping power in Melee, Jigglypuff gained a much better vertical recovery and exceeded Pikachu's recovery but that was not the case in the original SSB. I noticed this page had descriptions of the up special moves. None of the other special move lists have a description column. :I think it's necessary because it's more convenient for readers to have a list of special moves accompanied by snippets describing what they do (especially if that's all they're searching for) than to have to visit each individual article. ::Thing is, if we decide to keep the column, we might have to add it to the Final Smash, neutral special, side special, and down special pages for consistency. :::I just marked this thread for cleanup, since either way, it'll need it. We need to decide whether or not the column needs to be kept. ::::We need to finish this discussion. As for me, I think that since we have pages on special moves already, we could remove the description columns. It isn't that big of a problem to click on the special page link. And I understand that we have moveset subpages for other moves, whilst we still keep the description snippets, but the subpages are really for technical and competitive info. <font face="sand"><font color="black">Qw</font><font color="003F3F">er</font><font color="005F5F">ty</font> <font color="005F6F">(t</font><font color="003C6F">al</font><font color="000F7F">k)</font></font> 22:51, 2 September 2014 (EDT)

:Yeah, seems that some of them still have a ways to go. Anyways, if we do wish to keep it, we may need to add the column for the other special moves sections for consistency. ::Keep. I think I might be a bit late to this debate, but as long as the descriptions aren't too long and in-depth, I think it's fine to have them on the page to give people a basic ideas of the workings of an up special. This is something I'd be willing to have on the other specials pages, too. And on that note I'd like to apologize for my reckless renovation of this page without really consenting the talk page.
