The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

Wall of Pain (abbreviated "WoP") is a Jigglypuff strategy of constantly barraging the opponent with aerial attacks, while exploiting Jigglypuff's horizontal air maneuverability. Jigglypuff should move forward in the air with each attack, then once you hit your opponent, move back to where you started. This allows for quick attacks and keeps you out of range from any retaliations.
Tetsuya and AOB were the earliest prominent users of the technique, and they are largely responsible for its widespread use (see PuffStuff). The term "Wall of Pain" was coined by Smash World Forums administrator and retired smasher Amorasaki, a longtime friend of AOB. One of the most famous examples, commonly demonstrated by pro smasher King, is the use of Jigglypuff's multiple back airs to juggle an opponent off the stage, horizontally.

Other characters with the ability to jump multiple times in mid-air, such as:
These characters can attempt similar techniques as Jigglypuff's Wall of Pain. However, with slower air speeds, faster falling rates, and moves with varying directions and knockback, these attempts are less effective than Jigglypuff's original WoP.
Those characters with somewhat established "WoP" are as follows:-
- Kirby, in Melee, can use a similar maneuver, the Fence of Pain, though not as effective as the WoP. In Brawl, the increase in Kirby's attack speed and priority make this technique much more effective, but his Fair's time lag and slower horizontal air speed, means that it remains a Fence of Pain. Using Kirby's Bair, means it is almost as effective as Jigglypuff's Bair WoP
- Meta Knight has a similar technique, which some have dubbed "Jericho", which relies on his rapid sword slashes in the air. These may be powerful, but the direction of the knockback produced is not always constant. This, combined with Meta Knight's ironically poor air speed means that it is less effective than Jigglypuff's WoP.
- Wario (SSBB), as Wario-Man can use aerials to gain or maintian altitude, however, movement control is limitted, meaning no effective Wall of Pain can be established. But due to his increased attack power, one aerial hit is often enough - its just getting there is hard, preventing it being a WoP.
