Xyro is an American Samus player from Texas. He is also the host of the HOBO, WHOBO and TGC tournament series and was a member of the Unity Ruleset Committee.

He has had competitive rivalries with Samus players Tudor from Las Vegas and NOID from the East coast. In 2008, both Xyro and Tudor released combo videos claiming superiority over each other. Xyro's video was titled "The Green Lesbian" because he uses Samus's green palette swap. At WHOBO 3, Xyro defeated NOID in a $50 money match after placing 5th in the low tier tournament, one place below NOID. He is also known to have many different rivalries with other players too.

Tag origin[edit]

His tag is inspired by Zero from the Mega Man video games. However, several other smashers also had their tags named to Zero as well, so instead of naming himself this, he decided to change the first two letters into X and Y. This made Xyro stand out, with the tag having a similar pronunciation but the name being completely different.

History[edit]

Xyro first started playing Smash in 2001. Soon after, he gained prominence as a tournament host in the Houston smash scene. He is best known for his HOBO (which stands for Houston's Official Brawl Organization) tournament series, which began in April 2008.[1] Even before Meta Knight was banned by the Unity Ruleset Committee, Xyro has held many HOBOs where Meta Knight was not allowed. The World HOBO tournament series, the first of which was held in April 2009, is an annual offshoot of HOBO which attracts smashers from other regions. As of August 2013, Xyro has hosted 40 HOBOs and 6 WHOBOs, with the most recent being held on May 3rd-4th, 2014. Despite wanting to retire in August 2012 after WHOBO 4, numerous people encouraged Xyro to return to hosting the series again. Thus, Xyro returned to the Brawl scene in March 2013 with the thirty-ninth and fortieth HOBOs, and two more WHOBOs.
