Falco's f-smash[edit]

Falco's f-smash is an incredible move, excelling at speed, reach, and power. Besides being in consideration for best f-smash in Melee, it has far better reach than his d-tilt with even more power and comparable speed. Normally I would avoid guides like this, but rating Falco's f-smash as average while ranking his d-tilt higher is just egregious. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 09:49, 23 June 2013 (EDT)

Also, Falco's dair is significantly less powerful than Falcon's dair. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 09:51, 23 June 2013 (EDT)

Well I'm not even close to a semi-professional btw. I should update it though Scr7Wolfsig.png 10:04, 23 June 2013 (EDT)
Falco's dair ain't the second strongest either. Besides Nipple Spike, Wizard's Foot and Marth's dair are more powerful. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 10:18, 23 June 2013 (EDT)
Crud, forgot about Ganon's Down B, and I didn't know that Marth's dair is more powerful Scr7Wolfsig.png 10:21, 23 June 2013 (EDT)

I'll add my 2 cents in this. While Falco's dair isn't the most powerful spike in the game, it is far and away considered the best in the game. It's great for pretty much everything: approaching, comboing, killing, shield pressure, etc. Also you're not giving nair and bair enough credit. Both are just as good as dair imo and even fill in holes dair cannot. A well spaced, l canceled nair is arguably a better approach move than dair (it's safer because of the lower startup and ending lag and better range, but the reward is less). It can hit people out of dash dancing and because of its long duration can clang through shorter and slower moves and still land a hit. Also because of its long duration, it's wonderful for edgeguarding (it covers both instant and delayed recovery options). If you land the weak nair, you get a shine, grab, another nair and even a dair. The bair is good for similar reasons except it's more powerful and has shorter duration (it's just as fast though). For advanced techniques you should start with waveshining and laser techniques. Then move on to harder stuff like shine -> aerial and shine -> waveland. You'll also need to go over how to space, tech chase, and cover options with Falco (as that is Falco's primary ability). I consider myself Smashwiki's most active competitive melee player. If you have questions about how to use Falco (one of my mains) at a high level be sure to ask me.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 16:41, 23 June 2013 (EDT)

Revisions I would make.[edit]

  • Jab should be at least a 2 maybe a 3. This jab comes out on frame 2 and it works exactly like Sheik's so you can jab reset people if they don't tech dair or down throw. Also you don't "L-Cancel" into a jab. You buffer the second jab input after the first 1. L canceling only applies to landing aerials.
  • F-tilt is a 3. It's pretty good for spacing and you can angle it down to cover the ledge. Watch PP
  • Up-tilt is 5. Believe it or not this has incredible range both horizontally and vertically. You just need to have your back towards your opponent to optimize the spacing and even then up tilt has hitboxes that go in front of falco. When people say up tilt covers everything, they aren't lying.
  • F-Smash is definitely a 5. There is nothing wrong with it. Best f smash in the game only getting 4? Do you even play this game? :p
  • Nair and bair are 5s for reasons I stated in the paragraph above.
  • Fair combos floaties pretty damn well. Make it a 2 or 3.
  • Fire Bird could be a 2 since it has pretty good KO potential. The Bombsolider combo is actually a very good KO option on Yoshi's Story and Stadium, though I know you could just shine-> bair instead. Regardless it's incredibly flashy.

I wouldn't give fair above a 1 for that and definitely not a 3, as the move is still about useless outside that specific niche against a few characters. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 19:47, 23 June 2013 (EDT)
Actually, fair has significantly more horizontal reach than nair or bair, so it does have uses outside comboing floaties such as spacing against Falcon's dash dash -> nair. And strings of L canceled fairs against jiggs or peach is nothing to scoff at. I agree a 3 may be pushing it though.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 20:43, 23 June 2013 (EDT)
Fair is a 2 against floaties but a 1 against others. I don't think Fire Bird should be a 2, even though it may be a decent KO option, it's not reliable at all. BTW I've got SHL down and can do it well, but I am very bad at waveshining. I can shine during aerial combos. I am not great at tech chasing. Scr7Wolfsig.png 11:40, 24 June 2013 (EDT)
Also thanks for all the information Scr7Wolfsig.png 11:47, 24 June 2013 (EDT)
