Hey Juggleguy! What brings you to Smashwiki :D ?!--BrianDon't try me! 02:19, 4 November 2012 (EST)
Hi there![edit]
Welcome to our wiki, and thank you for your contributions! There's a lot to do around here, so I hope you'll stay with us and make many more improvements.
- Recent changes is a great first stop, because you can see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
- Please sign in, if you haven't already, and create a user name! It's free, and it'll help you keep track of all your edits. See SmashWiki:Why create an account? for more info on creating an account.
- Questions? You can ask at the Help desk or on the "discussion" page associated with each article, or post a message on my talk page!
- Need help? The community portal has an outline of the site, and pages to help you learn how to edit.
I'm really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!
"Ownership" of wiki pages[edit]
Hello. I'd like to talk about this edit summary you provided on your last reversion-edit to the MIOM page:
- Please don't remove content without running it by the team. All of this information is very important to us, and should remain on the Melee It On Me wiki listing.
This comment suggests to me that you or your group intends to exert authority over the content of the page as if it belongs to you. However, that's not how wikis work. While some pages may benefit more from the contributions of subject-experts than from anyone else, that does not mean said experts have any control over the page or its content. This is often explained to newbies as "If you don't want your work edited by others, don't post it on a wiki". The Wikipedia page on article ownership has a more in-depth explanation of the standard we like to follow.
This being said, I've undone your reversion for the time being, as I currently agree with the other user's viewpoint. If you wish to discuss the removal of information, and hopefully come to an agreement on what is and isn't relevant to have on our page, then use the article's talk page instead of simply undoing it. - It's clear you have forgotten about what's written above, so this serves as a reminder. Just because an article is about you or a tournament you organized does not mean you can freely decide what goes on and stays off. It doesn't matter if the side event wasn't created by you. If it had recognition as a side event in the tournament, official or not, it will get listed regardless. As Toomai said, if you wish to discuss removal of information, take it to the article's talk page and bring it to a vote. Undoing it repeatedly comes off as edit warring, which is a punishable offense if persisted. Please keep this in mind in the future. Disaster Flare (talk) 14:02, 13 October 2016 (EDT)
- I literally can't discuss this on a public platform because of various circumstances. Please email me robharn@gmail.com or I'll escalate it to someone who has the authority to remove the problem content. It's serious and needs to be addressed. Also, it makes no sense that any side event can be recognized, especially one that was completely unknown to any organizer and 100% separate from any official tourney capacity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Juggleguy (talk • contribs) 14:09, 13 October 2016 (EDT)
- The following is just my opinion:
- If you don't like how the PM side event is being listed in the tourney article (because you don't want to be personally linked to it or whatever), then spell out "This side event was not officially recognized by the TOs, and was organized/ran by Xxx and Yyy" or something in the article. It's simple enough for a player to say "I don't want my real name or age in my smasher article", and we do that, but the way I see it a side event of almost 100 entrants is too major to simply ignore (and it doesn't deserve being on its own page). I don't think there's anything that anyone can or should do to strongarm that information off the wiki.

- Toomai, I respect that opinion but please believe me when I say it goes beyond what I personally want to see or not see on the page. I just need to talk privately so I can explain more. 50.207.46.131 15:05, 13 October 2016 (EDT)
- If you claim it's that big, then email me, and we'll see what's up. Toomai Glittershine The Hammer 15:07, 13 October 2016 (EDT)
