User:Yoshifan 34567/How I got my Mains and Secondaries
This is the story of how I got my Mains and Secondaries in the Super Smash Bros. series.
Mains[edit]
Super Smash Bros.[edit]
Yoshi[edit]
I haven't played Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 that much but Yoshi seemed like a really cool character to me. He is the 3rd heaviest fighter in the game but is extremely fast (having the fastest air speed in the game and his dashing and walking speed is also very quick). His attacks seem very easy to pull off but are very strong and has many KO moves, such as his forward smash and forward aerial which is a meteor smash when sweetspotted. He also has a a large amount of combo moves including his forward tilt and up tilt. Yoshi's Up Special move is an Egg Throw which is difficult to control and due to the arc that is in the middle of it, it becomes too slow and short-ranged in order to be as effective as the other projectiles in the game. The explosion does have good range and power though.
He does have weaknesses such as having trouble dealing with pressure, especially from those that are higher than him on the tier list. His recovery can travel a decent distance due to his fast air speed but getting hit out of his double jump makes him helpless due to him lacking a third jump. Even weak projectiles such as Fox's Blaster can knock him out of his double jump. His grab is slow, laggy and lacks range compared to other ranged grabs.
Despite all of these flaws, Yoshi is still a cool and fun character to use and fits my playstyle well so I decided to make him one of my mains.
Captain Falcon[edit]
Like I said before, I didn't play SSB64 that much but like Yoshi, Captain Falcon was an extremely fun character to use. He is the fastest in the game and had amazing combos as well as having the best dash dance in the game. He has great KO moves and KO options and was an outstanding character for me to use. I would constantly train with him to get better and is possibly the favourite out of my 2 mains. His down aerial is probably my favourite meteor smash in the entire game. His attacks has great range including his forward smash and up aerial. He does lack a projectile but can easily deal with them and in the end, I decided to make him one of my mains and he's probably my favourite character in the game.
Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
Ganondorf[edit]
I got to play Super Smash Bros. Melee for the first time on Christmas Day 2015 (also known as the day that I got the game) and I wanted to main Marth and Fox. I did eventually main those two characters. However, over time they started to get boring to play as and seeing that these characters were mainly used only because they were top tier, I decided to drop them. I thought about whether or not I should find a new main or just quit competitive Melee altogether. I decided to continue playing and I decided to main Ganondorf. He was so fun to use, he had amazing power and strength and his combos were so satisfying to pull off. I didn't care if he was just a last-minute clone of Captain Falcon, that didn't stop me from picking up this amazing character and I don't plan on dropping Ganondorf for a very long time.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
Sonic[edit]
So back when I first played Brawl in 2011, the character I wanted to try out the most was Sonic. When I heard that he was in Brawl, I was extremely excited and could not wait to play as him.....and then I found out that you had to unlock him. I was disappointed and I never unlocked Sonic within the week and a half of me renting the game. However, in September of 2014, I went to a friend's house and we played Brawl. The entire character select screen was complete. All characters were there and I tried out Sonic. After beating him in a fight against Tabuu in the Subspace Emissary, I thought to myself that I was going to main this character and I eventually did. Honestly, Sonic is one of those characters who is fun to play as but he has very few killing moves and relies more on his speed to get away from opponents and go in for the kill. You have to be patient and focus when playing Sonic. You don't want to abuse the Spin Dash or Homing Attack, that will just make you predictable and you will easily lose (unless the player isn't focused). It's best to be patient and wait for the right time to go for the attack because if you don't go in at the right time and end up missing, you will be punished for it.
Wolf[edit]
At the same time when I played Sonic, I also seen Wolf on the roster. I wanted to try him out for fun and after playing him, I loved him. He is a blast to play and his combos are insane and you'll want to use them to your advantage. He is in no way a clone of Fox or Falco. 90% of his moveset is entirely different from Fox's. Wolf was that one character that looked a bit off but was so fun to play as. However, when Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS came out and I found out that Wolf wasn't in the game, I was extremely pissed off. Not only did I lose two of my mains but I also lost two of my all-time favourite characters in Smash and gaming overall. I couldn't get over it and I am still to this day, annoyed that Wolf isn't in the game. Sure, one of my mains came back as DLC but I didn't like him as much as Wolf. Hopefully he comes back in Smash 5 or somebody mods him into Smash 4. The worst part is that Wolf was removed for no reason at all. Sakurai has yet to explain why Wolf wasn't in the game from the beginning. He did the same with Lucas but brought him back so I was surprised to see Wolf not make a return. Anyway, Wolf's attacks were powerful and he was easy to use. I got a funny zero-to-death on a Level 8 Jigglypuff CPU that was completely satisfying to pull off (hopefully I can do that in tournament sometime). His throws were useful and his back throw could set up for some follow-ups. His Up-B looks like a kill move but it doesn't kill until a very high percent just like Bayonetta's Witch Twist in Smash 4. Anyway, Wolf was an amazing character and I am still to this day, disappointed that he didn't make the final cut in the newest Smash Bros. on the 3DS & Wii U.
Lucas[edit]
In Smash 64 and Melee, we got Ness from Earthbound. He looked fun but he wasn't that great. However, in Brawl we got Lucas who I found to be much more fun than Ness. I knew nothing about Lucas and I wanted to know him more. I found out that he was from a Japan-only game named Mother 3 that came out in 2006. I studied his moveset and I started playing him a lot more. Eventually he became one of my mains....and then when Smash 3DS came out and I found out that both Lucas and Wolf (another one of my mains) weren't in the game, I was extremely annoyed. I was even more mad that now we only had Ness and I didn't think he was fun to use. However, in the April 1st, 2015 Nintendo Direct, after Mewtwo and everything else was announced for release on April 15th we got the reveal trailer for Lucas and I was so excited knowing that one of my mains returned to the roster. (To be continued)
