I'm the main source of the "character description"/"origin" segments of Xenoblade pages, and the idea struck me to fill in parts for characters that don't have pages yet. Just in case.

Party[edit]
Reyn[edit]
The first thing Reyn is seen doing is running headlong into danger in order to protect Shulk, and this remains his most important characteristic. He is caught up with Shulk in the Mechon attack on Colony 9, and in the aftermath decides to join him on a quest for revenge. Along the way, Reyn is Shulk's shield and never wavers from his side.
Reyn is Shulk's best friend, so as a result is also fairly friendly with Fiora and Dunban, and a member of the Colony 9 Defence Force. He acts without thinking and is generally not clever, but he is fully aware of this, and so never questions Shulk's decisions. He also takes the most active role in trying to leverage Shulk's visions, both in trying to get Shulk to stop being cagey about them, and convincing others that the gift is genuine.
In combat, Reyn is the group's armour tank, with his goal being to take enemies' aggro and keep it by taking minimal damage from their attacks. Many of his arts hit multiple foes and generate aggro beyond the normal rate, and he also has a fair amount of tools to simply deal large amounts of damage. This makes him a most effective tank against ether attacks or large groups of enemies. His weaknesses are not strong, but they are important - he has only a single ether attack, he will have trouble hitting nimble foes, and as his goal is to take damage he will inevitably need healing. That said, he fits well with almost any team composition.
Sharla[edit]
Sharla is a combat medic from Colony 6, which was destroyed by the Mechon a month before Shulk arrives on his quest for revenge against them. She initially joins Shulk to rescue her foolish kid brother Juju from the Mechon, during which the party discovers several mysteries about the powerful Face Mechon. She sticks with the group afterward for her own revenge of Colony 6.
Sharla is the "team mom"; she goes out of her way to look out for others and help them with both physical and mental ailments. While very sympathetic to everyone, she's not afraid to call anyone out on their mistakes or shortcomings, which leads to much consternation with Reyn.
As combat medic, Sharla is the party's main healer, with a large variety of healing and buffing arts. Her weapon is a sniper rifle, so she can stay far from the action while still supporting and dealing damage. Using arts heats up her rifle, which weakens her healing arts and strengthens her damaging ones, but eventually she has to spend a significant amount of time cooling it off. Combined with her lack of damaging arts to use, having her in the field means that both the party and their enemies will live longer. As other characters have sufficient healing to get through most situations, and she has very poor chain attack synergy, this leaves her as the community-agreed least effective party member in battle.
Melia[edit]
Melia is first seen as an ether-strong mystery girl in Makna Forest, with orders to kill the dangerous Telethia roaming about. After doing so with the party's help, she helps them reach the High Entia city of Alcamoth on the Bionis' head. The subsequent chapters of the story revolve around her ascension to the throne as newly-revealed crown princess, and outplaying those that want her dead for being half-Homs. As the party moves to Prison Island to confront Metal Face, Melia's father the emperor is killed, and she is released from duties in order to join Shulk's group for revenge.
As half-High Entia, Melia is double the age of anyone else in the party, which combined with her stuffy imperial upbringing has given her a stiff and haughty exterior. But on the inside she is quite lonely, unaccustomed to friendship or being considered anyone's equal.
Melia's battle style is as complex as her character. She can summon up to three of six different elementals, which provide a stat boost to herself and all nearby allies as long as desired, and can then be fired at enemies for incredible amounts of damage. After enough discharges, she gains a burst aura that doubles her elemental damage and unlocks powerful wide-effect ether arts, which remains active longer when her morale is high. Combined with her mechanics being very friendly to massive chain attacks, she has by far the highest damage output of any party member. But while she has a few tools to keep enemies off her, she is by far the frailest of the party, so finding the correct time to unleash her extreme damage is paramount. All told, she is very ineffective when played by the AI.
