The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

This is a list of every movie, show, and special every Smash character has appeared in to date. For a detailed list of what isn't counted and why, see here.
* The character in question is not an official character (only being a costume for a character), but is still acknowledged separately due to them being complete remodels and/or the fact that the narrator announces them separately.

Canceled Movies[edit]
N/A | Mario, Luigi, Daisy | While not outright confirmed at the time, a sequel was hinted at the end of the first movie, but would've been ultimately dropped due to the critical failure of the first movie. In 2013, a sequel was indeed confirmed planned, surviving through a webcomic written by Steven Applebaum and Ryan Hoss and illustrated by Eryk Donovan, titled "Super Mario Bros. 2". The film's surviving original writer, Parker Bennett, helped outline the webcomic's storyline, making it canonical to the film and finally revealing what could have been a sequel film.
Canceled by 2007 | Link, Zelda | Would've been the first appearance for Link and Zelda. In 2007, Imagi Animation Studios, who provided the animation for TMNT and Astro Boy, created a pitch reel for a computer-animated Legend of Zelda movie, though Nintendo didn't take the studio up on their offer due to the failure of Super Mario Bros.
Canceled by 2007 | Samus, Ridley | Would've been the first appearance for Samus and Ridley. The movie was first agreed upon in 2003 with Nintendo being on board, but was canceled sometime in 2007 due to Nintendo not having a good grasp of Samus' origin at the time, and didn't feel comfortable with the production team being in charge of it due to the commercial flop of Super Mario Bros.
Canceled by 2008 | Pac-Man | Would've been the first appearance for Pac-Man. In 2008, a film adaptation of Pac-Man was announced to be developed by Crystal Sky. However, nothing has been reported since, and it was likely quietly canceled.
Canceled by 2009 | Simon | Would've been the first appearance for Simon. In 2005, the rights to make a live action adaptation were acquired by Crystal Sky Pictures. However, due to a series of issues surrounding the studio, the film was ultimately canceled. |
Fan films[edit]
Fan films are under a different set of rules: They must be well-known enough to be noticed by the original creators. If a fan film does not meet this requirement, it will not be added to this list, strike some exceptions. Additionally, all characters in this category will not follow under the "first appearance" habit, nor will any of them be removed from the "Unannounced" section if they appear here.
4/1/2008 | Link, Zelda, Ganondorf | An elaborate April Fools prank by IGN, they released a trailer for a movie based on the franchise. Due to its high quality and the higher difficulty to validate information at the time, many fans were fooled, believing the movie was real. On April 2nd, they revealed it was a prank, sparking outrage.
9/27/2009 | Snake | ||
12/14/2009 | Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf | Based on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the film takes many deviations to the point where the only things similar are the main characters and story.
9/20/2010 | Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard, Mewtwo | While not mentioned by Nintendo, the fact that this trailer took the internet by storm and became a popular subject in the Pokémon community for quite a while is enough to warrant a mention of this.
1/10/2013 | Sonic | While not mentioned by Sega, this film did notably return the inclusion of Jaleel White as Sonic, reprising the role from the multitude of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons from the 90s.
11/2/2015 | Samus, Zero Suit Samus | While not mentioned by Nintendo, this was made by the same studio who made the aforementioned IGN Zelda trailer. |

Unaired Episodes[edit]
Was scheduled to air 11/4/2004 | Pikachu | This episode was skipped due to the 2004 Chūetsu earthquake, which occurred a week before the first airing of the prior episode. Likely due to the usage of Earthquake within the episode, it was considered poor taste to air it and moves such as Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude have not been used in the anime since.
Was scheduled to air 3/17/2011 | Pikachu | These episodes were indefinitely delayed after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, as well as the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster that was subsequently caused by the event. Reports from TV Tokyo stated that they would someday air, but ultimately never did, and they were eventually written out of the anime's continuity.
Was scheduled to air 3/24/2011 | Pikachu |
Canceled TV Shows[edit]
Specials[edit]
Formerly called "movie shorts", specials are in a separate category of their own, as a special could be released in a wide variety of ways in varying lengths, making classifying them as either television or movie incorrect. Specials no longer count for a debut on either side, but will still be listed anyway.
Live Performances[edit]
12/7/1989 | Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser | Bowser and Peach are named King Koopa and Princess Toadstool.
11/2/2000-4/7/2002 | Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo

Mii costume appearances[edit]
As of 9.0.0 in Ultimate, six special Mii costumes are in the game. Unlike other costumes, they are full remodels. Not explicitly characters, but it feels appropriate to give them and their escapades a mention.
