A lot of people are content to use hyphens as a stand-in for dashes - like this. Not me. A real dash is a different character. Or, well, two characters—one that looks like that – and the other looks like that. (They're interchangeable in many contexts—I prefer the em dash, but I prioritize consistency.) Hyphens are not dashes, and since SmashWiki doesn't have any technical restrictions preventing the use of actual dashes, there's no need to limit ourselves to approximations. If you see me editing this punctuation, that's why.
A lot of people are content to use a letter x as a stand-in for a multiplication sign ×. Some people figure that the acute accent in 'Pokémon' isn't worth the trouble, since there's not much else it could be confused with. Not me. I'm the guy who's crazy enough that he made a custom keyboard layout just to make these and other symbols easy to type. –é—×÷≠≈‘’“”«»°… Not to mention /ˈmoʊstəvðəˈsɪmbl̩zˌjuːzdɪnˈɪŋglɪʃˌaɪpiˈeɪ/.
You could say I'm a stickler for punctuation.
