Bonito Harbor was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate superregional held in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, from March 9th-10th, 2024.
Venue controversy[edit]
During the event's pre-local, several players were caught smoking marijuana, which was prohibited in the venue. When the players continued to smoke, tournament staff kicked all the attendees out for the remainder of the weekend, which included for the main event itself even though the main event was held in a different venue. Players were only allowed in if they were playing a set, were commentating, or were part of the staff, and were barred from re-entering once they were eliminated.[1] This decision was criticized by the tournament attendees, who were upset about the decision punishing all attendees, as well as paying for a venue that they could not enter. Ultimately, the tournament organizers apologized for the situation and reversed their decision for the second day.[2]
One of the players who was smoking at the pre-local was MkLeo, leading many to assume he was the one who started it all. MkLeo later responded, admitting to being one of the players who was smoking in the pre-local venue but explained how he was not the one who brought it into the venue and was only involved in the rotation.[3]
