TR3GTheZ (colloquially referred to as The Z) is a top professional Super Smash Bros. 64 player currently ranked first on the Montreal Smash 64 Power Rankings and formerly ranked 16th on the 2017 64 League Power Rankings, who is known as one of the best players in the world and the second best in Canada behind SuPeRbOoMfAn. He placed in the top 10 of national tournaments such as Apex 2015 and Genesis 3, and placed 2nd at Get On My Level 2016. His teammate of choice is tacos, and the duo known as Team Luv has gone to Grand Finals of both Apex 2015 and Genesis 3. He is the head of TR3G, a crew of Fox mains dedicated to advancing the character's metagame.

The Z is known to be able to play virtually all characters at a top level, and as of mid-2017 has retired Pikachu and Kirby from his tournament play.

The Z currently plays for SSBMontreal.

Tournament history[edit]

The Z made his international debut in January 2014 at Apex. He was placed in Pool 1, where he defeated YBOMBB (then considered Canada's second best player) 2-1 before being sent to loser's bracket by the Japanese player Merihim 1-2 and was later eliminated by tacos 0-2 to ultimately land at 25th.

In March, he participated at Polybash XIII in Montreal where he beat notable American and Canadian players such as Sex 2-0 and Fireblaster 2-0, and notably defeated Mew2King 3-1 using Donkey Kong. He placed 2nd, only losing to KeroKeroppi.

In August, The Z traveled to New York and entered singles and doubles at Zenith 2014. There, he defeated Fireblaster 2-0 and LD 2-0 before being sent to losers' bracket by Wizzrobe 2-3. He then defeated Nintendude 2-0 and landed at 4th place after losing to KeroKeroppi 1-3. He won the doubles bracket, teaming with SuPeRbOoMfAn, defeating Nintendude and Firo 3-1 and 3-0 in Winners Finals and Grand Finals respectively.

The Z traveled to ECHO 2015 Winter in Ottawa in early January 2015, the strongest Smash 64 event in Canada in years, where he beat many notable Canadian players, outplaced YBOMBB and notably double-eliminated Revan 3-0 and 3-2. He only lost to SuPeRbOoMfAn, solidifying his place as Canada's second strongest player.

On January 31st, 2015, The Z entered singles at Apex 2015 in Secaucus, New Jersey. After defeating Aisengobay 2-0 and Cobr 2-0, he entered Top 16 through losers after a 1-2 set against KeroKeroppi, defeated Killer 2-1 and landed at 9th place after losing to Dext3r 1-2. He also entered doubles, teaming with tacos, where they took convincing victories over formidable teams, such as a 3-1 victory against Banze and Cabelo, 3-0 against Dext3r and Wizzrobe, and 3-0 against Star King and Killer (after losing to them 2-3 in winners' side). They then played SuPeRbOoMfAn and JaimeHR in Grand Finals, where they lost 0-3, taking second place.

At GENESIS 3, The Z placed 9th in singles. He had a very strong performance in doubles teaming with tacos, defeating Fireblaster & Nintendude 2-0, Pete and Dext3r 2-0, wario and wangera 3-2 and Isai and Rith 3-1. They placed second behind SuPeRbOoMfAn and JaimeHR in Grand Finals, losing 2-6.

At Get On My Level 2016, The Z faced Nintendude in finals of his pools, where he won 2-0. He then played Revan and won 2-1 and was sent to losers bracket in Winners' semis by SuPeRbOoMfAn 3-0. He then played an extremely close set against Derek, against whom he performed a 3-0 comeback including a 4 stock comeback during the fourth game. In loser's semis, The Z faced Revan again, this time taking a 3-0 victory, and defeated KeroKeroppi 3-0 in Losers' Finals to face SuPeRbOoMfAn again in Grand Finals, where the latter won 3-0.
