Talk:Start/Pause button
Update[edit]
The start button article needs a bit of an upgrade. Does anyone know offhand if you can map controls to the start/+ button when customizing them in Brawl? And if so, does that mean that you can map the pause function to another button? And if so, I guess that should be mentioned on the pause page, too. --RJM Talk 00:52, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- It's been fixed, so I'll remove the cleanup banner. Cheezperson {talk}stuff 03:59, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Retitled "Start-Pause button"[edit]
...using {{DISPLAYTITLE}} to display the title of "Start/Pause button" and not have it as a subpage. Miles (talk) 16:29, 9 October 2010 (EDT)
- You know, why title it, "Start/Pause Button" in the first place? Only one of the four controllers you can use to play an SSB game calls it the Start/Pause Button. The N64 controller's Start button is only called Start, the Wii Remote's is called + and the Classic controller's is called + or Start. I think Start is a better title because it's what the button is genrally called; even when referring to Gamecube nobody says, "press the Start/Pause button." Not to mention that both Start-Pause Button and Start/Pause Button both look unappealing as title names. Doctor Pain 99 (CTE) 22:49, 10 October 2010 (EDT)
- What does it matter how widely the controller is used? And the only time I see "Start/Pause" used is on the controller; i've never seen a game say, "Press Start/Pause". They always say, "Press Start". Doctor Pain 99 (CTE) 22:57, 10 October 2010 (EDT)
- I'm pretty sure the official name is Start/pause, so it should be kept that way. Correct me if I'm wrong about this, however. Mr. Anon (talk) 23:00, 10 October 2010 (EDT)
- The GameCube is the only video game controller I've ever heard of that calls it Start/Pause. Most other controllers just call it Start, including the classic and N64 controllers. Doctor Pain 99 (CTE) 23:05, 10 October 2010 (EDT)
- I would like to correct your earlier statement about how nobody calls it the "start/pause" button. While it's true that people don't call it the "start/pause" button, people don't just call it the start button, and have often called it the pause button. As such, both names do get used, regardless of the controller being used. Start/pause is a more complete and covering name, and in my opinion, there is nothing less appealing about it at all. - I guess you could call it "Pause", but then again, you could call it whatever you want. I have never seen a video game that says, "Press Pause" or "Press Start/Pause". "Start" is the most frequently used name for the button, and one controller that can be used for SSB has a button just called "Start" and two of the others have "Start" in them. Only one controller used for SSB ever says "Pause" in it's start button, and almost no games reference it. BTW, + is more frequently used as a button name then Start/Pause is. Just start button[edit]
Only the GameCube controller has a "Start/Pause" button. The N64 and 3DS have a Start button (officially START for the latter), not a Start/Pause button. The Wii U GamePad, Classic Controller (Pro), and the Wii U Pro Controller all have the word "START" under the + button. Even for the GC game, Melee, the title screen only says "PRESS START", not "PRESS START/PAUSE". I believe this should be moved to "Start button" as that is the more widely used term, even in the Smash series. PikaSamus (talk) 13:31, 24 September 2014 (EDT)
