Smasher talk:Jobes
Notability[edit]
Here's why I question this article's notability: first, the HM claim is unverifiable on the wiki. On the Minnesota PR page I cannot find Jobes anywhere. Second, even if he really was legitimately HM'd for like once a long time ago. I still have doubts whether their results at local/small tournaments outweigh their results at larger tourneys. - Agreed. The OP, Moonear made a Google Form for Minnesota players who wanted their own wiki page and posted it in various places and so, a lot of Minnesota Melee smasher articles have this problem of not always being notable and often not having adequate results because he made these articles en masse. I agree that this is such an example and support its deletion. MintyGuy700 (talk) 01:24, June 11, 2024 (EDT)
I'm going to vote to keep. I think they have enough after looking at the regionals/monthlies. Wiifitkid (talk) 07:15, June 11, 2024 (EDT)
@MintyGuy700: Oh interesting didn't know about that so there are probably similar cases like this one out there. With that said this still seems borderline at best for me because there's like...2 good placements the two 13ths. NPM Morr!? 23:50, June 11, 2024 (EDT)
- Remind, me this weekend. If I have time I'll try to see if can find any older results. But I wanted to expand my thoughts a bit why he meets my threshold.
- 1) A player is notable or not - events dont degrade their notability. I initially agreed with your assessment about majors - but some players perform better regionally than nationally. If their regional results are notable enough then the player meets the threshold.
- 2) His region has a surprisingly active melee scene during is time in competition. The most notable monthlies I found averaged between 40-100 entrants. It's probably fair to assume that things like UMN Smash November and Hall of Fame Arcadian are probably in that range. With this scene being pretty active- I don't think it's necessary to be PR to be notable. I'm also more inclined to believe he could of been an HM for this reason as well.
- 3) Some of his worse regionals placement wise are due to having many of the regions good players in attendance. This rule applies to most of the other monthly series I found (the smaller series). So going 1-2 there, while not proving notability, doesn't really detract.
- 4) Were still missing a lot of events - so I'm more inclined to give him some leniency until proven otherwise. For example, we know he placed reasonably well at a 2015 event - but we know nothing about that timeframe for this scene.
- 5) He has some decent results. 13th out of around 100 is usually good enough result for me, particularly when it isn't a one off, as he also has the Arcadian win, the 3 / 43, 7 / 42 13 / 53, 13 / 55, and 13 / 70.
- The one thing, that we don't have that would help is a win list. Regardless, I initially agreed with your assessment. But I thought the possibility of an HM warranted me to dig a little deeper. Wiifitkid (talk) 17:31, June 12, 2024 (EDT)
- Well I'm dumb, some of the older players do have events. We can probably did here to make an accurate assessment on the MN regionals. https://umnsmash.challonge.com/tournaments Wiifitkid (talk) 17:33, June 12, 2024 (EDT)
