Old tag[edit]
I’m not entirely caught up on SmashWiki’s policies of deadnaming in comparison to other wikis but I can only present the facts and you can tell me. Yes the old Achilles tag was Scrob up until 2022, but Scrob being derived from Robert, I think it’s quite straightforward why I opted to leave the old tag out of the article text when I wrote the page, using it only as a redirect. I still think it would be fairer to leave it off, but if SmashWiki has any policy on deadnaming that I can read then I would be glad to. Toast ltimatum 20:51, July 4, 2022 (EDT)
- Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's no guidelines covering these so called "deadnames" iirc. But it is what OT said on a talk page that these types of historical tags cannot be removed and no exception will be made. Idk what you mean by "derived from Robert", but real names can be removed by the request of the smasher, but not tags that were used seriously in a certain period of time. If you mean something like Chia's old tag then yes that has to be kept. Those tags should still be mentioned at least once in the article. NPM Morr!? 04:07, July 5, 2022 (EDT)
- You can find the page in question here. Tldr: removing old tags will provide no benifit other than confuse readers who use this wiki for cross-reference. Making exceptions will only open the floodgates for others to question why we can't do the same for them, which will only result in drama. Furthermore it will only serve as a burden for us editors who have to "update" the tags, such as if 1: the old tag is used in hundreds of articles and 2: with how frequently tag changes can occur, having to constantly do this will be too much of a pain in the butt for our part for something that only worsens readers' experience.
