The History Behind Super Smash Bros. series was started in December 2006 with the origins of the characters' movesets in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. CrappyCaptureDevice's popularity on YouTube increased and he continued with his series of videos, alongside some tutorials of how he does them, in time documenting the history of stages, music and other elements as well. Upon the release of ''Brawl'', CCD was asked if he would do the same style of historical analysis with the new ''Smash'' game, to which he answered that he might do so but not immediately. Before CCD began his videos on the history of ''Brawl'', many others on YouTube made similar history videos to explain elements of the game's history.
